Short Shifter for B18C swap in EK

Hi guys,

I am planning to do the swap in my 99 EK hatchback sometime in the future. Can anyone recommend me as to where I can buy a decent one for a great deal in the GTA and the brand to get. I only need it for street use so I don't want something very expensive.

thanks for any help.

scarlemthug 18-May-2005 03:53 PM

B&M short shifter

imported_HKS Power 18-May-2005 03:55 PM

How about the Solo shifters Are they any good?

Nova_Dust 18-May-2005 04:02 PM

Forget about Solo, B&M is your choice.

imported_HKS Power 18-May-2005 04:03 PM

Guess if I'm going to shift, why not shift with the best. thanks man

scarlemthug 18-May-2005 04:52 PM

my advice is get the B&M short shifter (approx $70-80) and the Energy suspension shifter stabilizer bushings($17-20) and u will love it. Awesome upgrade for anyone with worn our shifter bushings.

punkindrublic 18-May-2005 05:06 PM

in my opinion honda's cable shifters are far superior... so i'd suggest dropping the b18c idea and go h22 :drivesafe

imported_GoldBadge 18-May-2005 05:09 PM

I'd say worry about your swap for now. You're just street driving, so a short shifter shouldn't be on your list of things to buy right away anyway.

Well my dad is going to do the swap and it will be his first time swapping in an engine not originally installed from the factory. He has alot of experience changing engines so it should be ok.

I hear with the H22'S, you have to do alot of work with the suspensions to make it handle right. I had an opportunity to meet a guy with an H22 in his EG hatch and I can remember him vaguely telling me he had problems with his suspension.

Guess I'll do a search and see from ppl how much trouble it takes to swap in an H22 which I would love to have by no means. I chose to go with B18 as it's pretty much plug and play as long as I get an Si engine wiring harness.

So what do you guys think, H22?

If I don't get a shifter then what am I going to use to drive the car? The stock EK shifter? I might as well get a short shifter and install it all at once. I know what you mean anyhow. Just make sure the swap is done right, right?

B&M shifter is only $80 or so? That is pretty cheap considering I was told by Astroboy long ago shifters by Neuspeed or DC sports is going to cost over $100

imported_italstallion 19-May-2005 02:00 AM

i have the b&m short shifter and im getting my energy polyurethane bushings installed tommorow.u cant even move the shifter one inch when u have them both installed its really crisp.

scarlemthug 19-May-2005 04:52 AM

B&M owns DC sports etc, pm astroboy asbout it.

Cynikal.Mindset 19-May-2005 07:25 AM

get the b&m with the built in pivot bearing, its the more expensive model but so much better

imported_Moe_Mentum 19-May-2005 11:31 AM

is the B&M a 2 bend or single bend design? Does Astroboy still sell them?

Double_B 19-May-2005 11:32 AM

Yes he does

imported_HKS Power 19-May-2005 01:00 PM

I'll be sure to give Astroboy a PM sometime, thanks for the advice.

How much more is the one with the pivot and the double bend shifter?

scarlemthug 19-May-2005 02:34 PM

about $150-200 i believe for hte pivot one.

imported_redeYelove 19-May-2005 02:58 PM

I see Skunk2 wasn't mentioned, so i will. They make a great shifter as well, top of the line is around $200. Juss another option
pickme:

spracingsports 19-May-2005 03:45 PM

That I find that very hard to believe. They are steel not aluminum like most shifters and I doubt you could break one simply from shifting too hard. I have a Skunk2 and I love it. B&M would be my second choice. Steel also.

imported_loudsubz 19-May-2005 04:59 PM

I had a b&m on my civic, it was a nice shifter, very well made, good choice.

Double_B 19-May-2005 07:53 PM

bought a B&M from Astroboy last week, haven't installed it yet, can't wait!

whoah that's too much for me, I'll stick with the regular one.

Hey Double B, how much for the one you got from Astroboy? And did you get the bushings as well?

imported_italstallion 20-May-2005 02:06 AM

so yeah i got my polyurethane bushings in today and it feels nice when u get into gear u can move it forwards or downwards without putting the clucth in ,it has a nice crisp feel does anyone know which bushing it is that makes the wiggle onthe shifter stop.like i canhave it in 1st adnmove it 2 third i want it stiff.

FPB_SiR 20-May-2005 02:17 AM

bro go to honda-tech.com and look in the sponsor section for the Evasive motorsports shifter.... its a great dual bend shifter and cost me $60 USD shipped w/ energy suspension bushings to canada.... the thing is just as good as my friends B&M and i pound on it all day long...

I got one from Astroboy for 75 and I but a poly bushing from a member for 20.

wickedj 20-May-2005 11:12 AM

How long does replacing the original shifter with new shifter and bushings?

Is there a set time for replacing your shifter? I've got almost 80000kms on my civic.....is it a good time?

imported_trackhack 20-May-2005 12:42 PM

No, there is no set time for replacing your shifter OR your bushings. New OE bushings on a car with high city mileage will improve the accuracy and feel of the shifter.

Most people change to polyeurethane bushings for a more solid, direct feeling shifter mechanism and a "short shifter" in order to reduce the length of the shift throw (or travel) between consecutive gears.

imported_Moe_Mentum 26-May-2005 09:14 AM

Looking to buy a Short Shifter... I've searched and I can't seem to find a place to tell me what the difference is between the dual and single bend designs.... Does the dual bend sit closer to the driver? Also the B&M model with the pivot bearing... what is the difference in feel compared to just the regular one?

imported_Moe_Mentum 26-May-2005 04:56 PM

Oh yeah .. anyone know where I can buy the Energy Suspension bushings other then online?
