Short Shifter

Hey guys, my shifter just came today from ebay. I was just wondering if anyone has a link where they show you step by step instructions on how to do a proper install. Thanks

and how much is your ebay short shifter?

you should've just got a b&m... decent and good price

98_SI_Coupe 20-Sep-2005 04:58 PM

I paid $50 bucks Cdn...and it also came w/ a type R shift nob...It looks pretty good...why would i spend like 200 on a B&M

imported_alwaysoverkill 20-Sep-2005 05:17 PM

skunk2 $90cdn shipped from ebay and worth every penny, hehe.

one thing, don't be surprised if it rattles alittle on the exhaust, clearance is tight down there.

imported_t_dot_SiR 21-Sep-2005 12:08 PM

b&m is not 200 bux...

i remember the buddy club short shifter by option jdm?? is not even 150 haha...

where did you get the quote for b&m for 200?

some guy was selling a brand new b&m awhile ago for just like 60$ (or $80) not quite remember... but for sure b&m is just around 100... and its quality stuff compare to ebay... unless you're getting the skunk2 stated above...

tons of my friends have bad experience with crappy brand short shifters... bad clearance (as in very bad), and it didn't last longer than 6 months even with gentle shifts... just a heads up...

Focus in Hamilton was selling B&M short shifters for $98.00 including tax. That's also including the bushings. That is where I got mine from.

so it doesn't snap on you while you're driving and leave you stranded in neutral on the road somewhere... looks aren't everything, you get what you pay for.

Cheaping out on neon lights or something go ahead, but cheaping out on engine/tranny/susp components... you're the only one that will lose out in the end...

I just sold my bran new b&m short shifter for $60, and I got it for around that price also. They aren't $200 dude. lol, also b&m makes one of the best short shifters.

How can you tell what kind of short shifter you have? When I bought my car it was already installed. I get a bit of rattling off my exhaust and was thinking about replacing it.

you'll get rattle all all short shifter usually. i just made a custom rubber brace for the exhaust that holds it about 8-10mm lower then stock, never rattles now and has enough clearance. if forced to much, it will cause an exhaust leak and huge loss of power, but 8-10mm seems to be no prob at all.

if you pull the shift boot down alittle, some shifters have the name on the upper part of the shifter.

Thanks man!

I don't like short shifters, I think they mess up your syncros, in my dads car, he had a short shifter, used to occasionally get 2nd gear grinds, lost the short shifter, and the grinds went away.....

SS's only munch syncros if you shift to quickly. If you shift normally, the short shifter will cause no damage to your syncros. Also people think that SS make your tranny shift quicker, that isn't the case, it just gives you a shorter throw, which makes it "feel" shorter.

to tell if u have a quality shifter compared to junk...take a magnet to the shifter...if it sticks its quality (steel fabrication) if it dont its **** (aluminum fabrication) and the aluminum ones break...TRUST ME!

98_SI_Coupe 22-Sep-2005 01:24 AM

so some of you are saying my short shifter is ****...some saying B&M is better and some say it ****ed w/your synchros...**** I dont even want to install it anymore...I dont need to cause any problems on my car

bbarbulo 22-Sep-2005 04:42 AM

if you have a quality peice and are not retarded, then a short shifter is just fine. you did not get a quality peice, so just beware that at some point it may snap. it's happened to at least 6 guys I know.
