short shifter

What is the difference between a short shifter and a regular shifter? Would I notice a difference if I change to a short shifter?

OEM vs. Solo
+Shorter over-all height. Shorter throws due to different (longer) mounting point.
-Cheap ones can break. Throws that are too short can ruin your syncros.

very true... i have my snapped one in my garage to remind me to be light on the shifts

i re-enforced the crap out of my current one with a tig welder so its pretty beefy for an apc short shifter now.... if this one breaks i'm going to cry

do you get a softer shift like in the 2002 civic or is it the same as the regular but shorter?

I don't think there a waste of money at all. When I orginally had the stock one, and put in the short shifter. Boy, there was such a big difference in shifting, the feel the throws etc. Shifting takes way less effort, and you can shift a hell of alot faster

Its totaly worth it. I bought one for $40, being using it for 2 years now, and I drive my car 365 days a year.
Shifting is a lot more fun. You just flick it in and out of the gears and can shift at tenths of a second!

Get one. You'll be happy!

there only a waste of money when you buy a cheap one and it breaks... cause then you have a car that isn't driveable and you need a new shift rod...

but also you should always be shifting as fast as the short shifter allows cause it'll kill your syncro's

It's not a waste of money "unless" you buy a Skunk2. I was implying that the Skunk2 I have now is far better then the Solo that I used to have.

I've seen broken skunk2 shifters along with broken dc shifters etc. some people have bad luck and some have good...so telling somebody that they need to spend over 100bucks for a peice of metal is silly when they are all practically the same crap minus a logo

I myself have a C's Type adjustable short shifter from ebay and from my preliminary testing of it I can say its of better quality than one would think. it uses an actual sealed bearing at the shift rod connection and a self contained bearing at the pivot point (just like the expensive B&M versions). Then here is where mine differs from all, its height, throw, fore and back, side to side adjustable for perfect driiving position adjustability (exactly like the C's driving position shifters) not to mention it looks mad cool too

Skunk2 S-Bend shifter...thats how GSR shifters are shaped...other companies make an S-Bend shifter too...locates the shift **** closer to the driver and vertical unlike the straight up and down B&M ones

I've tried a few short shifters... was never really too satisfied with them... so I chopped the top of my stock shifter... doesn't shorten the throws very much cuz the bottom length after the pivot point is what shortens throws. But it looks good and shifts are smooth. If I were to try another one I'd get either Edelbrock or B&M w/sealed pivot point... BUT that C's that cynikal is using looks pretty good too!

got a web link for that one???

Make sure u get a short THROW shifter. otherwise the actual throws will be the same distance, pretty much defeating the purpose of getting one.
