Short Shifter = bad?

Short Shifter = bad?
I've been hearing some rumours that short shifters are bad for the transmittion/clutch. Is this true at all? I'm looking to put one in but I want completely stock reliability for my '96 civic SI. Any comments welcome. Thanks!

I had one on my car, was I occasionally got 2nd gear grinding on downshifts, got rid of it, problem hasn't shown up since (that was 2 years ago).....maybe the expensive ones are better...

People, people listen, it all depends on the quality of the sifter in question. For example in my own car I ended up running a cheap 20 dollar ebay short shifter which in the end did end up screwing up the syncros on more then one gear. But if you run a quality short shfter such as a B&M for example or better yet an OEM SiR short shifter from Japan then you should be ok. It also depends on how often you shift hard at high RPM's, how old and worn your syncro's are, and how you shift/use the clutch.

I've got a skunk2 single bend and love it. In fact, I will never go without a short shifter on any manual car I drive and i'm going one step further and installing an Omni Quicklutch CMC this weekend to shorten the clutch pedal too.
Junk acts and turns out to be junk while quality will always retain its quality...means you get what you pay for "ebay JDM TYpe R style short shifter" is crap...you can see that when its $20 as opposed to the $80 skunk2.
and yes, short shifters can rattle on the exhaust but there are many ways to correct this

Poor shifting habits/techniques can ruin your tranny faster then a short shifter. A short shifter car really only ruin your tranny when you shift poorly to begin with. I had a Skunk2 in my 98 and a DC in my 03. Both are problem free.
Buy a decent quality shifter (Skunk2, DC, Neuspeed), upgrade the bushings to Energy Suspension urethane, change the tranny fluid to GM Syncromesh or something similar and shift properly snd you'll be fine with a SS.

I mean by shifting properly for example...
-Not trying to force the shifter into 1st when the car is still moving.
-Shifting too fast for the syncros to keep up causing nasty grinds.
-Not using the clutch when shifting.
