shifting rattles
hey guys
i m having a kind of problem with my honda , for some reason my stick shif rattles , vibrates ,when its in first , second or third gear . It makes vibration noises that annoys me . if i have the radio on i can' t hear it but when its off you can hear the sound . it s like there is a loosen bolt or something . I have no problems with my clutch or the shifting ( its smooth). and it doesn make the sound until i hit about 3500 rpm . Is there a way to get rid of this noise??, i think the stick its loose or something because the only way to avoid the rattle sound its if i hold the stick shift hard everytime i shifted , then its ok . anyone had this problem ??

yeah, I've seen this before
if the car has an exhaust shield loose, it could be that. or sometimes with an aftermarket exhaust, the shifter and the exhaust could hit.
but MOST likely, and something I've personally experienced, is the two rubber o-rings that are under the car on the bottom side of the shifter... they are too thin. get some thicker rubber orings from canadian tire or home depot and stick them between the fork and the bottom of the shifter.
you'll see what I mean when you get under the car.

I have had this exact same problem before where my shifter would make a buzzing\vibrating noise. If you go to Honda ask for the shifter bushing replacement kit. I believe its the same for any civic. The kit basicaly consists of what BBarbulo is asking you to get. Replace the pieces that came with the kit and the vibrating will be gone, plus you'll get a bit firmer shifting.

All civics do it. I've drive my friends 95 si, and it shakes a lot. I have an 04 si, and its done it since day one. I don't think you really have anything to be concerned about. Mine slightly shakes, and doesn't really make any noise though.

I know its normal for it to shake and vibrate , but to make a buzzing sound its not normal . my friend has a 93 civic and it doesn make any noise , mine didn use to make a noise till last month when it started . I gotta go to the dealer get that kit you guys were talking about . that noise can get annoyin at times
