Shifting Question

I have this problem on my 2000 sir about shifting after a drive.
Shifting gears becomes really stiff. You know how you put your car in neutral and move it side to side. It moves very easy, but after a bit of drving it tends to get really hard. Same goes if I go pretty fast.

I have a short shifter installed. Dont think it could be the problem but who knows. Does anyone else have these problems?

My guess: your exhaust is melting your shifter bushing, making it sticky and gooey, thereby making your shifter feel like pooh.

I agree with this, a friend of mine had a 98 si, with a short shifter installed, and the top of the exhaust was rubbing on the bottom of the shifter.

what kind of short shifter do have installed?

Maybe he just did the bottom bolt up too tight. My shifter was real stiff until I loosened the bolt. Maybe you could you use a tranny fluid change too.

I got a short shifter from Performance Improvements on Queensway. As to the name, I cant really remember.

You are probably right about the bushings. If i bang my shifter down, I can hear it hitting the heat shield on the bottom.

So what should I do? Get a new short shifter and possibly cut some metal off from the heat shield so it doesnt come close to the shifter? Or will I have to replace my bushings and all?

get under it and see what kinda damage has been done, replace damaged parts and fix the problem (maybe thermal wrap the exhaust)
