shifting

well, in a civic 6th gen dx ,there is no tach.so at wut speeds should i be shifting..i am doing it every 20.......

20 in first
4o or so in second 60 in third and 75-80 fourth...adn 90 plus 5th...

punkindrublic 16-Sep-2003 05:34 PM

i have your tranny in my car and 3000 rpm is like 30 kms in first i think... i could be wrong though.... i always look at the tact and shift at 2500

speedracer 16-Sep-2003 06:51 PM

i don't have on....i posted up , before about someone installing a tack in my car for speakers, but people replied and wanted money...I am not offering money...only 6.5 mtx speakers for the install....THATS ALL...NO MONEY

punkindrublic 16-Sep-2003 08:05 PM

sometimes you gotta show the money to get stuff done?

cee_mon 16-Sep-2003 08:19 PM

30 km in 1st gear should be alot higher than 3000rpms.

punkindrublic 16-Sep-2003 08:45 PM

i'm not sure... i remember on my Si tranny 30 kms would be like 5000 rpm... but the dx revs way lower....

just to settle it for sure i'll go for a boot around the block and find out though

punkindrublic 16-Sep-2003 08:51 PM

ya it revs exactly at 3000 rpm going 30 km/h

Quick_CX 17-Sep-2003 12:17 AM

just rev until you hit rev limiter and than shift....nah man...you should be able to feel it ...when u can tell its reving up shift....if you reallly wanna know whast speeds to shift at teh honda owners manual syas reccommended speeds for shifting

imported_BoOsTd 17-Sep-2003 06:35 AM

I think they recpmend shifting at 4,000- 45 cuz it capable of high reves so this keeps the carbon buildup off the pistons, inturn extending fuel mileage... some people think shifting low will help gas, but it wont in the long run

bbarbulo 17-Sep-2003 09:01 AM

not bad, but it's a little low. redline comes at around 60 in first, 100-105 in second, and I usually put it in 4th at 160, and that's good to the speed limiter I'm pretty sure, though I've never tried it on any public highway. Around the city, go by ear now that you have a guideline of top speed in each gear.

imported_gatherer 17-Sep-2003 09:10 AM

there is a rev limiter use it to find out how fast you can go in each gear ... don't be scared of it

punkindrublic 17-Sep-2003 05:42 PM

my shitty dx tranny lets me rev to 70 in first gear... the Si was so much tighter i'd be going like 45-50 and redlining first

93 DX motor:

1st I shift at 40Km
2nd shift at 80km
3rd shift at 110km
4th shift at 140km
5th shift for anything beyond 140km/h

I have being shidting like this for a while. It seems to let the motor work well, not under too much stress, and it also performs well. Car pulls pretty good and it pushes hard as well.

I know the red line of DXs is around 6400rpm and shifting at above speeds, confirms the redline as well. I have being observing this with my added Tachometer as well.

Anyways, its pretty much up to you to shift at certain speeds. You must feel comfortable and thats all that matters.

Try to listen to the engine sing (scream in my case! lol!) and you will know what to do!
