shifter problem

i have a generic short shifter.
when it was installed it was so tight that it was hard to get into gear.
a few weeks passed by then it loosened up.
then a few months after that it was so loose that even if it was in gear (lets say first gear) when u move it left to right its like ur in neutral but its in first gear.

will replacing the bushing cure this?
TIA

Have you checked your install?? I mean, get under, have someone hold the shifter inside, and you try to shake the linkage... if it's loose, check the bolts (esp the one that looks like a bone and goes over the underside of the shifter), and if they are tight, it's prolly the bushings, but quick deterioration of bushings rarely happens. Prolly just forgot to tighten something.

Grrr damn fatal error on the site

it just didnt bother me that much back then than now.
