Shifter making a weird sound

If I am in neutral, and I want to shift to 5th or reverse, I get a strange clicking sound. I got no idea what it is. When I am in 4th and gearing to 5th, it is fine but just when I am in neutral and move it to the right it makes a strange sound. anyone know wtf is up with that? Any help appreciated, thanks!

bushings??

blk93si 12-Sep-2003 02:21 AM

tranny grind ? check shift linkage

imported_Gatsby 12-Sep-2003 10:42 PM

If its tinny clicking noises, its normal. Just your hydro transmission pump.

But if its when you shift to reverse from neutural, and there is a nasty CRAAAAACH noise, its your clutch and reverse engaging like crap. The solution is to shift to 2nd and then reverse, and it engages smoothly.

It's not grinding, just a clicking sound

do you have a short shifter by chance?

red90dx 15-Sep-2003 12:28 AM

it is prolly the bushings on the shifter itself..
even try lifing the shifter up to see if the plastic ring has failed..
pickup one of those E/S bushing kits for your shifter, and maybe some shifter bushings (inside the shifter itself) and you should be ok.

hahaha its not a hydro tranny i don't thing, might be the syncros

red90dx 15-Sep-2003 01:24 AM

I know, but it could be ... HA sport, just released the hydro conversion kit, but I doubted, its the bushings

or if it is a B series swap the linkages/stabilizer bar were crap made and are rubbing on eachother.

I have a B&M short shifter and when I push the shifter to the right and go reverse (before shift into reverse) there is a little vibration, not really clicking. Or it could have been.

It is the bottom of your short shifter touching the exhause pipe. I believe.

DJTre 17-Sep-2003 11:04 PM

It's an OEM shifter, no shortshifter or anything.
How much should I expect to pay for new stab. bushings? New to this ****.
And also, should I just pick up a new shifter while i'm at it, I was going to pick up an SS sometime soon anyways.
Thanks

get a B&M Edge, that's what I got... and some bushings - bushings are like $20 for all of them or something cheap like that.
