shifter BUSHINGS!

ok when in gear, the shifter feels very loose and wobbly as if i was in neutral, i can move it side to side etc.. i've been reading and I have to change the shifter bushings, i know this much. Now should I go OEM or ES? 16110.2R is the part #

also ive been reading about a shifter rebuild kit or something? what exactly does that do?

when off the throttle, the shifter vibrates quite a bit and causes an annoying rattle

lately sometimes its a little harder to go from neutral to 1st, could this be the bushings also? the shifter rebuild kit hard to use?

i think Dumbassi did this mod on his 98 based on my searches.. i cant bump that thread cause its in the archives...any suggestions?/fixes/diy's?

thanks

I did. I used both ES bushings for the shift linkage rods and a Honda rebuild kit for the shifter.

The ES bushings replace parts #14 and 16. The Honda kit is a rebuild kit that replaces all of the small parts in the base of the shifter #4,5 23 and 11. These parts wear out causing play in the shifter. The ES bushings are about $25 and the Honda kit about $20.

Yup^^

and getting it hard into first is not related to the worn bushings (unless they are very brutally worn out)

Usually tough shifting is related to interal problems or air in the clutch system. Try bleeding the system

any DIY's for the rebuild kit?

from the picture that Mike posted you shouldn't have any problems with this one. (unless your brain dead) lol

there are a few on honda-tech joker. Do a search

If my memory serves me correctly, I basically just tore it apart. Parts 4 and 5 are plastic. They crack and let moisure into the iside of the base of the shifter. Parts 23 are 4 small rubber o-rings. 2 of mine were basically gone. Part 11 was rusty from the moisture getting at it and because everyting was cracked and falling apart, my shifter was "wobbly".

Like Chirs mentioned, it may be something elase wrong witn your tranny, but fixing the small cheap stuff first wont hurt.

I had the exact same problem in my car. I recently changed my shifter to a short shifter and the problem went away. My mechanic said that my bushings were almost totally worn out. they were made out of plastic

i dont want a short shifter, i like the throws how they are, im going to get the bushings and the shifter rebuild kit.. i went to honda and the guy said that the rebuild kit should be installed before the bushings...true? i havent bought either yet tho

either or in whatever order...but you wont really notice any benefits from the bushings with all the other sloppy parts
