shifter

I have a question. I drive a 5 speed 97 EX. While in gear(for example 5th), I can still move the shifter side to side Like it's in neutral. Is this normal. None of my other cars were like that. It just seems alittle weird.

Any input would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Shifter bushings are worn

Try doing a search for this. There is lots of info on shifter issues just like this.

It's normal ware on the shifter bushings. Order an oem set or even better, order a set of urethane shifter bushings from energysuspension and that will really tighten it up.

good luck.

Are the bushings hard to change? Are they near the shifter, or the tranny? Any idea how much for the urethane bushings? Would a short shift kit come with some?

Bushings are not hard to change.

Jack up the vehicle, this bushing should be visible if you trace the shift rod all the way towards the rear of the vehicle.

Easy job.
Search the forum. You need a ratchet, pliers, maybe a wrench or two, time and light.
Good luck!

PS JRP usually has the bushings in stock, not sure if you're from the Mississauga area.
