seized caliper
 

ok so when changing my pads i noticed one of my calipers was seized......does this have any negative effects other than just wearing the pads out faster??? i plan on changing them, so you know those after market nice ones like spoon, and other brands....do they provide any sort of advantage, or are oem calipers fine....... also i was wondering if prolonged driving with them in this sort of state would cause any serious problems......
(once i again i plan on changing them in the near future)

Well....

if they are binding, a lot of heat will be generated, this could have very negative affects on your braking. For example, if your brake fluid has a high moisture content, the extreme heat can cause the moisture to vapourize and thus act like air in the system and cause the pedal to go to the floor.. But that is upon the most extreme condition.

Honestly, just change it with a rebuilt one from NAPA they're like 40$ I'd do a brake flush while your at it.

But besides it pulling while driving and pre-mature wear on a few parts, its fine I suppose. Its not like the wheel is gonna fall off or anything. If it gets really bad, like its constantly pulling, i would change it asap.

For the price it's better to replace with a new/rebuilt one than trying to fix your old one. You might want to check out your wheel cylinders in the back also. Myself when I do brakes whatever changes I make to one side I do it for the other.

how did u you get your new pads in the seized caliper?

they still function but just don't open and close fully, so my pads are pretty much always touching...... so how hard are calipers to change?? and wheel cylinders?? and yeah chris it's starting to pull man, last night was pretty scary.....
