Same exhaust manifold for civic & 1.6EL?

Hey Guys,

My bro needs to replace the exhaust manifold on his 1.6EL, just wondering if they are the same with civics and which years?. Or is there a specific motor the manifold has to come from? And how much do they usually range? Thanks for the help in advance.

96-00 si's and 1.6 el's shoudl be the same

The 1.6el is the more classy 'civic' from acura so I belive it has the d16z6 as a standard engine.

The exhaust manifold from a d16z6 civic will work...but some d-series exhaust manifolds from 96+ civics had the cat. converter right below the exhaust runners, as opposed to having the cat. converter under the car.

1.6el's have d16y8's not z6s.

96+ civic si's have the cat under the car.. the dx's don't.

It's the same as a 1996-2000 Honda Civic Si in Canada, or the 1996-2000 Honda Civic EX in the States.
As for price, is he looking to go aftermarket or just to replace the stock header? Stock header should be around $50. Aftermarket is a different story because it depends on brand and quality. Should range from $200-$400 for the usual stuff though.

ah never knoew that...but is the d16y8 a vtec engine?

not sure about the cars anyways, just a speculation

imported_koriental 11-Aug-2006 01:23 AM

What year is the 1.6El? Cause the 2000 si civic had tubular headers oppose to the ones found in 96-99 civic si.

The exhaust manifold is the header and should have a down pipe with it. There are some I believe in the car parts for sale, you could do a search there for them.

^^ thanks for the info, LOL they should just call it a header with a downpipe then. Cause i was thinking it was like a intake manifold. So i'll need one for the d16y8 right? If its just a regular stock header, is it really that expensive around $200-400?.

What happens if my brother keeps the one on there still because its cracked?.

imported_SilverSleeper 12-Aug-2006 01:29 PM

Depends on how bad the crack is. If its small, you can run with and take a small hit in fuel economy. If its large, best bet is to replace it.

I got a y8 stock exhaust manifold if you want one. pm me with an offer.. no cracks or major rust.

I definately wouldn;t recommend leaving the exhaust manifold there even if there is only a "small" crack. An exhaust leak is a lose of power, can throw off o2 signals, give a sluggish feeling, etc.
