Running turbo without an intercooler

People say that you can safely run a turbo at 6psi without an intercooler? (Like the Greddy Turbo Kit)

True/False?

there was a thing i read though where a company ran a turbo kit, i beleive it was APEX with and without the intercooler. With added another 15.4WHP. The PSI went down 1PSI with the intercooler but the intercooler alone gave 15.4WHP gains at only 5PSI (6, but it dropped 1PSI with intercooler).

that is only 5SPI, 7 or 8 would be even more gains. This particular kit made 186FWHP at 5PSI with the intercooler, no bad at all.

just something to consider

The Apexi kit is pretty much identical to the Greddy kit. Both with optional intercooler, but the Greddy kit comes with their eManage for feul enrichment.

For sure adding an intercooler will increase the hp, cooler air into the throttle body = more hp. But, does using an intercooler prolong the life of your engine (pistons, turbo, ect)?

If you want a bolt on kit, dont buy a ss auto chrome, buy the edelbrock, its the best, even though its a yankee one, no GAyDeeEHHHM

sure, you could run w/o an intercooler, but why? you won't be enjoying the feeling of boost for long if you like to push the throttle. I say just purchase an intercooler, if you can't afford to, then you shouldn't be F/I your engine.

if you can afford ultra 94 octane and 250 kms per tank, I think you can afford an intercooler.

to answer your question, depends on your tuning. but 6 psi should be doable with a good tune

89sihatch? if your friend needs help with his TD04L, send the questions my way. he'll need an external wastegate and he'll need to clock his turbo.

250 kms on one tank of 94 is pretty bad. On my turbo ZC with HF manifold, Probe IHI Turbp, 450 injectors and running 6lbs I am getting 300kms for about $22 witch is just over 1/2 a tank of gas. I have the computer chiped with the turboedit program and I am set at idle 40lbs of fuel pressure. I am also not running an intercooler as one of the fins got puncherd so I had to pull it out. I have not heard any detonation problem yet. As long as you know what to lison for and get off the gas is somthing does not sound right you should be fine.
