Rotors Keep Warping!
I'm having major problems with my brake rotors, they keep warping every 3 months or so, this can't be normal, what else could be cause this massive brake warpage?
My current brake setup is brembo blank rotors with EBC greenstuff brake pads. Any Ideas? |
Are you cooling them down with water? Avoid getting them wet when they are hot, excessive temperature changes can cause them to warp. This is why its best to pump gas before a touchless wash.
Side note: Hows the greenstuff compared to Honda OE? |

Are you overtorquing them, undertorquing them... check the specs, I had this problem on my DSM,, it cooked X drilled rotors after 2 months.
I'm willing to bet this is your problem |
you might also have a fault wheel bearing, check that out

werd! ^^ wheel bearing can be a problem as well... who installs these brakes for you BTW?

Man, I need a torque wrench, and make sure those fools at Markham Honda don't overtorque em! I bet its set a few 100 lbs more than what it needs.

checkout to see if the caliper anti-radle clips are doing there job, how old are the calipers also?

I believe he installed his brakes... (or worked on it in conjuction with another member of this board , not me)
anyways I'd recommend looking at the hob the wheel bearings and the caliper ... also the pads... not a big fan of them myself .... I have the same rotors though... did you follow the proper break in method for both pads and rotors? |
Over tourqing the lug nuts will warp the rotors... so will shot bearings to a point...driveing style, brake in period, seized caliper piston.... pretty well everything thats been said already...lol

Nice amount of replies, I did install them myself, but then my rotors warped, so I got them machined and my mechanic fixed everything up, they rode fine for a while, then I got my new rims and Wheel and Tire Zone on eglinton installed my rims, so I assume theyd have the knowledge to torque the lugs to spec.
This problem stems back from when I first bought the car though, Ive needed to machine rotors every few months since Ive had it, kinda a pain in the ass. So It makes me think its something I havent changed that causing the rotors to warp prematurely, possibly that wheel bearing you guys speak of. The calipers are most likely the originals too. |
Strange Greg... the set we installed on my car have been flawless (mind you, I'm not using the EBC pads). :confused: I'd have to agree with the others that suggested wheel bearing... but I'm not an expert.

green stuf might be dogin it but if is was happenign with the oe's....mayeb your jsut driving them real hard....green stuff's have had bad adn good reviews, mostly bad from what I've heard....maybe yoru jsut hard on your rotors....upgrade to gsr brakes....:thumbup:

There are a few things I'd do... I'd get a set of new slider clips, and guide pins, replace those on both front calipers... and carefully inspect your dust shield in the back for bending in the wrong places... be sure the wheel spins freely with everything assembled properly... and makes no noise.

I had EBC rotors and EBC green stuff on my talon that had warped rotors,,, I bet its the pads!!!
