Rims are to big! Any options?
Ok i have a 98 civic si with tein lowering springs. I am also running kyb agx srtuts. I have a set of 17's with a 40 series tire on itand i can not turn because i hit the fender. What would be the best route for me to get my car running on those rims?

What width rims, what size tires, what is the offset? I'm assuming you have tein S-Tech springs.

rims are not too big, they are most likely the wrong offset.
now answer me these questions three: question the first: tire size? question the second: wheel offset? question the third: wheel width? |
Also, is it rubbing under hard cornering or any time you turn the wheel? Is actually hitting the outside of the fender?

RIMS
i know the tiires are only a 205 40 17x7 and for the off set i believe it 40mm. They are the motegi mr 7. Driving straight there is no rubbing but when i am turning going fairly fast i can't hear it rub. But when i am in parking lots and going up little hills turning slowly it rubs. i don't believe that it is hitting the outside of the fender but under neath there a lip i think it hits.

hmm i'm pretty low on 17's and no rubbing at all...

everything sounds correct, offset, width, and tire size.
I'd remove the upper clip that holds the fender liner to the fender and call it a day. |
And whats that going to do? how do you do that? When the car sits on the rims the fronts have way less then a finger width of room but the back sits perfect height. Anyway that i can flare the fender out slightly with out doing bad damage and making it look like crap?

get some spacers and rip out the inner tire well

Just live with it. Mine rub when I am turning sharply and on an odd angle. ie. one corner is higher than the one diagonally across from it.
Many lowered cars rub the odd time. If it's only when you're parking in wierd lots and never on flat ground, then I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just try not to turn your wheel lock to lock and drive slowly when your at a wierd angle. |

Yeah but if i rip the inner liner out i was told that there is a wiring harness of some sort that needs to stay covered up. Yo dude if you have some problems with the questions i am asking don't post a bs reply like maybe you should sell your car and take the bus. I thought this forum was for experienced civic owner to help other civic owners with with their cars. Not get frustrated with them b/c there new to the civic scene. i took a look at the wheel well and all i could see was that there was a lip where the liner meets up to the fender. Taking the liner out would give me the clearence in the wheel well but not with the fender when the tire is out of the wheel well. Right??? If you have more help for me let me know. I have 15s on now but the tires have mad camber wear and i need new tires and the 17 i have are free with good tires on them. But ideally a set of 17s would look the best.

Smaller wheels or a higher drop might be your only choice. You could remove the fender liner, but run the rsik of damaging something inside. The liners are there for a reason. Most people who have 6th gen Civics and 17's (myself included) experience some of the rubbing you are having. Unless it happens all the time, under all driving conditions, I would learn to live with it. Mine only did it when the wheels were at full lock. Hell, my 15's rub now sometimes.
bbarbulo can be a little forward sometimes when people ask question's that have been posted before and the search feature isn't used. Trooper you have been given plenty of good responses. The ball is in your court now to correct the problem. |
