reving problem

Hi everyone

I have an 88 hatch 5 spd, recently I have ? an idling problem?

1) the idling rpm is higher than normal after I drive the car for around 20 minutes and it stay high

2) If I restart the car very soon after a drove it for more than 20 minutes the idling rpm is very high and it will drop as I drive it more but I remain high as I mentioned above

3) but If I let the car rest over night or restart it after a long rest the rpm is normal but the problem will start again

I tried putting some luburcation on the spring and the cable help initially but the problem started again.

anyway if there any suggestions please let me know

I would say that the throttle cable is probably getting stuck or is too tight. you might want to try to loosen it a little bit. There's a nut and bolt I believe that you can just loosen that will give it a bit more slack. If that doesn't work then come back.

if some lube helped, I suspect carbon deposits. this is the theory, after 20 mns of driving the enging becomes heat soaked and the carbon deposits on the throttle plate cause it to stay slightly open. leaving the car for a while causes the temp to drop, returning idle to normal. try some throttle body cleaner and clean that sucker out, then see if that helped. if not, we'll explore other options.
