Hi guys, I was just wondering..is it illegal to not have a resonator on your exhaust? and do I need one to pass safety and emissions? thanks

But the increase noise level could lead you to a loud muffler ticket.

Your call.

Its not that loud without one. My buddy had 2 and a 1/4 piping, a cat, and a Type R muffler on an SiR and it was loud at high rpm, like 5-6 thousand at WOT, but not bad below that. The intake was much louder.

The resonator, and correct me if i'm wrong, gets rid of most of the raspy, hissy, higher-pitched sounds coming out of your exhaust. So if you don't want your car to sound like a$$, then I'd keep the resonator on.

The resonator has zero effect on emissions. I don't know why some ppl think that the exhaust from the cat on back has an effect on the emissions, because it doesn't. The only way the rest of your exhaust can effect emissions is if you have a leak and you get an e-test done, the car will most likely pass no matter what.

I'm running stock header, cat, and resonator right now...thats it. My exhaust ends just infront of the rear wheels...and it sounds fantastic! not raspy or crappy sounding at all.

Be careful of running this setup, though it may sound nice, but lack of muffler will get you a ticket.

Oh i know....don't worry. It's quiet enough to be around cops and they remain oblivious cause I can keep it sounding almost stock if i drive carefully...
