Replacing Valve Springs
Hey guys. Just wondering....... I'm about to try and install new cams/ springs / retainers in a B series motor. Can the valve springs be changed without removing the HEAD?

yes, but you need a special tool that fills the cylinder with air to keep the valves from dropping once you remove the keepers.
Also, don't drop a keeper down into the head or in an oil passage....you'll be in a bad situation if you do. You also need the special honda valve spring compressor to get deep down in the head like the valve springs are in the b-series'. |
In order to keep the valves in place, so they wont fall into the cylinders while you're changing the springs, you can take the spark plugs out, and screw-in a cmpression-tester hose, and connect it to a nitrogen cylinder (thats how I do it at the shop). By doing this, you are filling the cylinder with nitrogen, which forces the valves to stay closed. You do one cyloinder at a time, and on the start of the compression stroke, just so nothing unexpected would happen ;-)

you can also use a compression tester with an air fitting and connect the shops air supply to it ......you dont have to use nitrogin
