Replacing Axles

I'm going to be replacing both the passenger and and driver side drive shafts on my 92 DX HB MT. My question is do I need to drain the transmission before I do this?
Thanks!!

No, but it wouldn't be a bad idea. It's very easy to change the fluid!

I agree. If you don't drain the transmission, you'll lose a little fluid when you remove the axles... but it's so easy to drain & refill it, you may as well go nuts while you're at it.

Alright Cool, thanks. I just changed the tranny fluid a couple months ago, so if just a little fluid comes out when you pull the axles I'll just pull them, and refill whatever comes out.

What kind of nut is on the tranny to remove for the tranny fluid? When I was looking on my automatic it looked almost like a hex shaped nut to be removed, if it was the right one.

Matt, it's a square 1/2" drive from a standard socket on my 5 spd. Like a regular socket rachet.

Yeah on the 5 spd tranny you just take a 1/2" drive and push it right into the head of the bold, no socket needed. It might be different for the automatic though. I know there's a little bit more involved in changing the fluid on an auto tranny.

^^ Ya, sorry didn't see your post. Yeah, like a regular rachet... I know it's been a while since you seen hand tools Mr. Cambell Hausfield but I'm sure you got a rachet around somewhere.
