that copper heat pipe????

remove the two 10mm bolts on the thermostat side, then pull it out, TRUST me its just rubber o-ring holding it into the waterpump.

block is going to be hot tanked...and everything needs to be removed for maximum cleaning of all the coolant passages, etc.

before re-assembling that get a new 0-ring, a home depot one will work instead of spending 10 bux from honda.

you don't have to replace the o-ring if it's not pinched or flattened anywhere, though the service manual does recommend it. I've used an o-ring off an engine with 200,000km and it seals perfectly if you install it correctly. The trick is to lube up the o-ring with some vasoline so that you can slide it into the block without the ring getting rolled back out of it's slot or pinched. Anyway, there's no harm in spending the cash to replace the o-ring, just make sure you order it in advance so you don't have to wait around for the dealership to special order it.

FYI, the tube also comes out of the thermostat housing as well, where it's held in with an o-ring just like at the back of the water pump. Lube this o-ring up too before reinstalling it, if you remove it from the thermostat housing.

When you reinstall it the tube, there's a little tab that sticks out of it near the end that you can see in the pictures you posted. This tab prevents you from pushing the coolant tube too far into the back of the water pump end. Just make sure you orient this tab such that the by-pass coolant line connection location will be facing back towards the firewall (as it is in the picture), so that you can get the by-pass lines hooked up easily and properly.

Good luck!
Dave

i would replace it, unless you want a coolant leak, why would you not replace a cheap item to save a major problem later you make no sence bud.
