Rear Brake troubles
 

Just put new shoes and springs in my 98 Civic EX. Went for a test spin but noticed the brakes don't feel right. I was expecting a firmer peddle and better stopping power but it just feels loose now.

Any ideas?

theres an adjuster.. should be a little rubber shield/protector on your backing plate.. take that off and grab a flat head and turn it up untill you hear the shoes scratch against the drum.. then brake and see how it feels.

Is this the same adjuster on the metal 2 piece bar between the 2 shoes?

I can't get at it though the hole in the backing, so I have to take the front off again. This makes it a real pain becasue if I adjust it slightly too far, I can't fit the front back on, or if it's under adjusted am left with the problem I started with.

yes it is.. theres a liitle toothed gear on it. When you take the plastic piece of you are suppose to reach it... thats the whole idea of the rubber cover

This might sound dumb but is the gear suppsoed to be right in front of the opening or are we talking about putting the screwdriver in at an angle?

never done one on a honda.. but you should angle it.. you'll feel it.. its a gear

just take the drum off, and adjust the gear. keep adjusting. you will know it's in adjustment when the 2nd or 3rd click on the ebrake causes decent drag on both rear drums. get what I mean??
