Really bad mileage

Hey how much do u guys get out of a tank?

i have a 2000 SiR and right now i am running really bad mileage unnder 300 to a tank i jus want to know what u guuys run and what my problem might be

my check engine light is on after the big snow fall i hit some chuunks of ice unnder the car and then thats when it started happening

and i don't have that muoney to go get it checked out at honda i heard u can check what the problem is by sticking paper clips in some plug and read how many times the checkk engine light flashes

help would be greatly appreciated

Prolly ripped out a sensor hitting that ice (or at least some wires). Could be anything, but I would bet it's an O2 sensor. As for reading codes, you need an OBD2 scanner.

B16A_SiR 05-May-2003 10:53 AM

ya i was guessing that too how much will it caost roughly to replace an O2 Sensor with parts and labour?

bbarbulo 05-May-2003 10:59 AM

depends on what you ripped out... :shrugs: prolly a couple of bills... take it to one of the affiliates for service. BTW, I get like 600 kms/tank highway, about <500 city.

imported_SiR_YO 05-May-2003 11:04 AM

jesus... which civic do you drive?? what kinda mods do you have? is that with ultra94?

B16A_SiR 05-May-2003 11:09 AM

i drive a 2000 silver SiR with wingswest Avenger kit and tanabe racing medallion exahust and ya that is with ultra94 but something f*&#ed up during that snow storm

Dude, I don't think it's a good idea that you keep driving with the check engine light still on. Go to Honda and get it checked out. They'll charge you $86 to reset your ECM but bitch at them to cover it under warranty so you won't pay anything. Nothing will get fixed but at least you'll know what the problem is.

the thing is i am over the warrenty period and plus i have an A/F connected to the O2 on the cat

Oh **** dude. Well I don't think your mileage is that bad. I only get 350 to a tank myself (city driving). I guess SiR's just consume more gas.

B16A_SiR 05-May-2003 11:41 AM

ya but b4 i use to get close to 5 with hwy and city and no VTEC tho lol and 400 withVTECing like crazy

imported_Cablerat 05-May-2003 11:42 AM

There is usually a plug near ecu just hanging open with 2 points.. if u connect the two points, your check engine light will start flashing the code.. I know the plug for 5th gen.. no clue for 2000 SIR..

my 5th gen 1.6 use to get 500km-600km no prob.

Do some searches on the net.. you should find it somewhere.

Since you have an OBDII car, you can just get an o2 simulator for the secondary o2 and just take it out if it's broken. My cousin can diagnose your problem and install an o2 simulator if you want it done.

what that gonna do if i get an o2 simulator? and cost?

bbarbulo 05-May-2003 01:58 PM

SW20 MR2, I'm thinking of going catless, maybe even exhaustless for a little while, how much for a simulator. You can PM me if you don't wanna say. :) Or I could pull a scooby and do a resistor mod.

The connector to jump the codes for EK's is on the passenger right side kickpanel. There should be blue connector tucked inside there; housed in a green rubber thingy. Just stick something in the blue connector to complete the circut. (ie. paper clip)
It 'should' be there, i don't see why the heck they would relocate it in 2yrs

check out the archieved FAQ for pix and code listing.

The o2 sim mimicks the signal given by the secondary o2 so that you don't trigger a CEL. If your secondary o2 is busted, you can either replace it with another one (more expensive) or just use the o2 sim to trick the ECU into thinking that it's operating fine.

The o2 sim sells for $95. It includes the sim, resistor pack, and a plug to plug up the o2 bung. If you're getting a testpipe, then you won't need the plug and can just make the testpipe without a bung.
