Rattiling noise coming from...

I started hearing a rattling noise coming from down under a few days ago everytime my engine hits 2500RPMs. Sometimes the rattling comes on at EXACTLY 2500 RPMs. I asked my g/f to rev it a bit while it was in park and it seems to be coming from the heat shield plate just above or towards to cat. converter a bit. Any idea what this sound is or where its coming from?

Sounds like your heat shield is loose. Many people have had this problem. You can either remove it entirely or replace the bolts and nutz that have come loose.

What's the pros and cons for removing it? I mean Honda probably put it there for a reason. What kind of damage would there be if the heat shield was completely removed?

Yeah.. I have the exact same problem. It is the heat shield. It gets really annoying and sounds really bad to outsiders. I talked to Honda about it at first and they said it's useless in Canada. If you decide to drive through three feet of grass the heat shield will prevent the grass from catching on fire. The honda people said that besides that there's no real point to it. So you can just rip it off if you want. Honda charges about 80 dollars to take it out. Do it yourself, it'll cost nothing and take like 20 minutes.

Cost of nothing sounds great to me!

If you do it yourself make sure to have lots of WD40 on hand, just in case.

heat shield...

I don't thing my problem is the heat shield you are talking about. Are you talking about the metal plate that covers the headers? My noise it coming from under where the long pipe is.

There seems to be a plate there or something that's causing a fast buzzing sound.

You have a heat shield covering the header and also one covering the cat. The one with the cat is the one you need to remove.

last winter my heatsheild and muffler got ripped off by a huge ice chunk on the highway. i replaced ther muffler but not the heat sheild and the only thing is don't pat over dry grass or paper if you've been driving for a while, that and you can feel the heat alittle bit throught the e-brake console but not very noticeable
its been a year and no prblems so just rip it off

I had the same problem, happened just before 3500rpm. but it disappeared last week for no reason. maybe it was still there but I could hardly hear it from the engine sound.
