imported_toyman29 06-Feb-2003 01:02 AM

if it looks loud... its loud,
unless it states that its not or w/ a silencer

[AZN]MOoMOo 06-Feb-2003 01:07 AM

I know nothing about muffler... so...
got no idea.....
I thought u guyz would have an idea of it's loudness...
dont anyone got one of these??

CiViC [-_-] BoY ™ 06-Feb-2003 09:33 AM

stay away from the ractive unless you want to be pulled over for noise pollution

no like Flowmaster, 5Zigen, MagnaFlow, etc
just stay away from ractive

[AZN]MOoMOo 06-Feb-2003 11:44 AM

so it's really loud???
if so... is there anything to reduce the noise??

ADR3NLYN_EK 06-Feb-2003 11:55 AM

that particular muffler you posted is not that loud on its own, if you get a full cat-back or a straight pipe that will make it loud. also straight bolt-ons will increase the noise like intakes or headers...

[AZN]MOoMOo 06-Feb-2003 12:41 PM

I'm not trying to make it loub...
I just want a quiet one......
well.. one tat's not tat loub...
and just wanna know if tat type of muffler is loub...

bbarbulo 06-Feb-2003 01:57 PM

If you want a quieter muffler get an Apexi World Sport. Universal mufflers are generally loud.

BTW, headers don't increase engine noise :richslap: An exhaust manifold has no other purpose than to merge the exhaust gasses together in a timely and organized fashion to maximize exhaust scavenging in a normally aspirated car. On a turbo car the manifold is designed to maximize the timing of exhaust pulses on the exhaust turbine. An intake doens't increase engine noise either, it reduces muffling

[AZN]MOoMOo 06-Feb-2003 02:39 PM

how loud is tat muffler compare to a stock one on a civic???
a lot louder.... or just a bit.... or in between somewhere..

bbarbulo 06-Feb-2003 03:08 PM

The Apexi is close to stock, but louder at wide open throttle. Ractive will resonate loudly at about 2500-3500 rpm, so you'd go deaf at highway speeds.

[AZN]MOoMOo 06-Feb-2003 03:15 PM

damn.... tat mean I gotta get rid of the Ractive muffler now...
does anyone wanna buy Ractive muffler...??
looks similar to the one in the pic above...

SilverCRXSi 06-Feb-2003 03:18 PM

I've got one on my CRX and its not too loud.
It has a deep tone to it.
When I floor it, then its really loud, but if I drive normal its good.
Plus it doesnt make my car sound like a weedwhacker(I'm sure some of you guys know what I'm talkin about)

BTW, I have the single tip one.

bbarbulo 06-Feb-2003 03:25 PM

The dual tip ones generally resonate more and hondas in general are pretty loud at around 2500 rpm. Deep tones tend to carry through the cabin as well, and while it may not be annoying for the first little while, about 6 months in, doing a 4-5 hour drive on the 401, and it gets exhaustive (no pun intended :D ) real fast.

[AZN]MOoMOo 06-Feb-2003 04:11 PM

well......
about how many times louder it is compare to the stock one..??

imported_toyman29 06-Feb-2003 11:16 PM

i also have a ractive exaust, but its a cannister style exaust.. w/ a silencer

its not that loud b/c the silencer

about your muffler, since the stock is veryyyyy quite its THAT much times more louder..

dingus8 06-Feb-2003 11:27 PM

dude if you already have the muffler then put it on and if it's to loud add another resonator to the exhaust easy as that...you can adjust how loud it is with "pre silencers" aka resonators...or if you wanna spend lot's of money than get a apexi world sport exhaust or a mugen twin loop

[AZN]MOoMOo 07-Feb-2003 01:32 PM

how much does the silencers or resonator usually cost??

I can vouch for that as can SliverCRXSi. We drove from cambridge to T.O in his CRX the exhaust is very loud inside cruising the 401. Gets on your nerves after awhile. Keep in mind hes got a CRX so the exhaust being right behind you doesnt help. That and the wind noise is enough to drive ya crazy too.

If you can afford a better exhaust I would stay away from the ractive.

1niceSi 07-Feb-2003 05:16 PM

I have a ractive exhaust MT602...fireball style...and i don't like it. for the first month it sounded great, but now after 5 months it's crap.

in the spring i'll be going back to a quite muffler. with the ractive, on the highway, it's quite loud and irriatating inside the car.

if i had the money i would buy apex'i WS or N1.

imported_Hybridtheory 07-Feb-2003 06:59 PM

ractive mufflers are VERY loud & obnoxious........ i've said it before......and ill say it again

go for a magnaflow.... with the setup i have ( 2 1/4 Stainless stee catback) with a resonated tip....... its great

sounds like stock...... but with a very low deep growl to it....

i would definatly reccomend it
