racing parts
Hey guys, I was at Mosport on sunday and it was enough for me to slowly turn my civic hatch into a race car. I basically need some impute which parts to buy for each category (ie for suspension tein vs. progress group...so on)
suspension ? brakes ? body stiffening (tie bars-cage, X-brace)? exhaust ? engine ? power adder or n/a ? rims ? for now my car has b16, 4-1 DC header, magnaflow cat-back, generic coil-overs, SIR shocks/sway bars, SIR rear disc brakes, rota circuit 8 rims (15") . like everyone else I'm on a budget so give an example of top dollar parts and bang for the buck maybe some oem upgrades. thanx guys |
build your block for boost.. and boost the **** out of it.
light weight wheels.. weight reduction will own you. Cut as much weight as possible. |
for a track car get the buddy club spec 2 for exhaust...it's RAD!
|
tein flex
type r sway bars cage (don't waste money on x brace and stuff like that if you're going to get a cage) toyo RA1s for tires like chris said, turbo is doable as long as you build the block. it will get very hot so make sure you do a good job on the cooling i.e. oil cooler, etc. even a built NA motor will be very quick on the track. get a big brake kit with cross drilled and slotted. mosport is very hard on the brakes so keeping them cool is very important. |

ok, first off, what kind of racing do you want to do?
second, once you decide on what you want to compete at, have a look at the rules and classes and decide upon that what modifications you want to do to your car. if you put the wrong parts on you could be seriously out of your class and not enjoy the racing being at the back of the pack all the time. or do you just want to do lapping for fun? in that case ignore what i just wrote. |
^^^^good answer, beat me to it^^^^

This year will probably only be a lapping day sort of year. next year more competitive. as for the 3" straight pipe--I still want to drive on the street once and a while. and as far as I know I need to remain N/A to compete, a turbo may bump me up to a rediculous class-not to mention the costs rise considerably. That being said I think B18c5 is my choice, suspension? and brake kits? (company names....) are still unknown .......
Thanx for the impute so far guys.....Sun June 11 Solo 2 at the Hersey Center everyone is free to come (www.soloontario.com for details) I'll post pics. |
why not go k20 then?
|
For now, ditch the generic coilover and get a proper spring/shock combo with good spring rates. Brand name depends on your budget. If budget is unlimited, go with Moton. Or else, you need to know how much you have/can afford to spend.
Then second, get some good tires. As someone said, Toyo RA1 is good, so are Hankook Z211, or Yokohama Advan A048. Lastly, get good brake pads. Have fun. |
Since you already have a b16 you are at an advantage. You still lack torque though. I would look into a turbo setup, because I believe stock b16's can handle something like 250whp, which is a lot to begin with.
It would be wise to strengthen the engine though if you intend to race it, meaning forged internals. While doing this, personally I would be tempted to scope out a b18b block, and put together a nice LS/vtec, and then continue boosting that. Obviously weght reduction is important, but also weight distribution. Suspension wise I would opt for some nice coilovers, but a quality set of springs and adjustable shocks can do wonders. |
K20 is still way too expensive plus all that install hardware, it still is cheaper to go b18c5 for sure.

do any of you guys circuit race? because i've read some rediculous advice. first off, curcuit racing is about response not power. you want your car to be as light as possible. this will put less strain on every component and increase the performance of your car in many ways. acceleration, braking, turn-in etc. its all about dialing in the chassis. Weight reduction, Koni yellows, GC coils, f & r sways, 7-9lbs flywheel, baffled pan (i can't believe nobody mentioned this) and tires are a good start. you don't need 250whp, f.i. kits, lsv or a K. learning your limit, understanding the track, understanding power-delivery and dealing with the various levels of competition are some of the more important factors.

Thanx 8.5K- do u do solo or any other racing?
