Questions: alignment / axle problems

I have a worn axle and it needs replacement. I know this because I hear the clicking sound when I turn left and right BUT my question is would it affect my alignment?

The reason I'm asking is because lately my car has been veering to the right alot on the highway, so much so that I need to steer it left a bit when I drive on a straight away to keep the car straight. I also do have different tires on the left and the right, the right tire slightly newer than the left tire. Is this problem linked (worn axle & alignment) or are they seprate problems?

My OTHER question is, how much would I be looking at if I were to (parts & labour) change both axle? I just need a ball park figure so I don't get raped when I go looking for quotes.

Thanks in advance!

tire wear difference would make a diff.
c/v's, highly unlikely would cause one side to drag or pull..

the size of your tires may effect pull. Also something as simple as tire pressure will do it as well. Make sure your tie rods are also good. Bad tie rods can throw your alignment off as well.

Ok I'm bringing my car in Monday morning to get it "checked" to see what is causing the clicking sound. I would just like any last min. suggestions so I know what to look for and don't get ripped off by the shop. My worst nightmare is the shop changing a part or several parts that is not causing the problem. This is exactly what's happening right now to my steering:

1. When I turn left or right at a certian angle I hear clicking sound. It doesn't happen when I lock the wheel full right or left.

2. This clicking sound only happens when I accelerate in a turn at that certian angle.

3. Up until a few days ago there was no clicking what-so-ever if I just let the car roll around a corner. Since then I have noticed the clicking during turns at that certian angle when I'm NOT accelerating.

4. My car still steers to the left on straight highways.

5. Steering wheel vibrates quite a bit at around 120 km/h BUT even when its at 115km/h its smooth.

I had a "honest" mechanic checked out my CV Joints 3 - 4 months back while this clicking sound was still occuring and he said that it doesn't seem like its the CV joint that's causing the clicking? Just by going from what he said could this be a tie rod or a ball joint problem? Any input on this matter is greatly appreciated. THANKS!
