Has anybody used Kumho 712 before?
Can anyone tell me about the condition and the traction of using this tire on the raining, wet road?

once ya burp off the outer "seal" they're great imo (2000km or so)..
great in the rain, again imo

i won't get into specifics but i've driven in some pouring rain and have never felt even the slightest lift or loss of grip even in the ramps

I'd never use Kumho's in the rain....

but at the same time I have tires for the wet, for the dry(kumho's), for daily driving and for the snow.....

so thats just me

I have 712's and they have really good traction in the rain. It's rained a lot recently and its a lot of fun to drive in it. They do warm up noticeably because I have noticed that at first the traction is adequate but nothing special but after a few turns approaching the traction limit the tires start gripping a lot better and you can really hold the road nicely.

So are those tires durable?
Can I use those more than 3 summer? (just drive on the road not on the track)

I hav a buddy who's got them on his 88 MR2 SC, and he claims they are good for the money.

My uncle has a set of 205/40/17 on his GSR and I tried his tires in both rain and dry roads.

Okay for dry (you will get better than factory tire performance)

sucks in the rain (same performance as your oem factory tires)

My summary is:

If you are cheap and only want the looks, BUY THEM.


If you are looking for performance tires, Don't bother with 712.
Pay a little more and get Yokes or Falkens.

You must have gotten some very special OEM tires. Maybe the added suspension components bring out the performance of the tires but I can do things in the rain with a decent margin of safety that I couldn't even dream of doing on stock tires.

The 712's on the GSR have less than 5000k on them.
They suck in the rain.
Not sure about the treadwear. You guys can read the tire reviews at tirerack.com

Well I'm not sure what type of driving you tested the Kumho's with but I can say that in the rain they have great traction under: acceleration, braking, and turning. I've had them on my car for the past few weeks and there was a lot of rain to test them on and I can't even begin to comprehend how anyone would compare their wet performance to stock tires. But I guess your results may vary depending on driving style.

haven't had any experience but from what I gather they are jsut a low miod range tire that most homo's get cause they are cheap and they have no idea what a real tire grips like...they are like the band wagon tire.....if you want a all round low cost tire then get them they will be great....btu if you want mroe than that then get something better......oh ya and 3 years on a set would be pushign it unless you never drove the car but that's like 70 000 -90 000 km's in most cases....

I had 712's last summer. I thought they handled fine, but I have never owned a set of good high-performance tires before to compare them to. I thought they were very noisy, and the tread wear was very poor. I wouldn'd buy another set.

no problems with them although it does slide a little in rain when cornering and a little noisy

this is my third summer with my set of 712. with my daily driving.
year 1 good traction, not noise. year 2 good traction, gets noisy. year 3 okey traction, very noisy. i lower my car by 2" on year 2.
i put close to 60,000 km on it. i will buy it again, if i plan replace it every 2 years.

I have the 712's on for their second summer season. These are my first set of 'performace' tires if they fall under that classification.
Anywayu, they grip very well, I have confidence taking ramps at a higher rate of speed. Wet traction has never been an issue, they have always gripped the road well.
I would buy again.

I used the 712's for two seasons and found them to be just ok. Treadwear was good but didn't like the tire for aggressive cornering. I used v rated 205-50-15 but apparently the z rated used a different carcass and was supposed to be alot better. I also used Pirelli P700Z in 195-50-15 and found them to be better for dry handling but 712 was better in wet. I'm currently running T1-s Toyo and miles ahead of the previous two. Outstanding tire for the money paid. Actually I got the Toyo for the same price as the Kumho and wish I had done it sooner.

I was looking for a decent summer tire at a moderate price and settled on the 712's (205/40/17) after reading several reviews, including earlier comments from Si Veloz and others. I've had them on the car for about a week now and no complaints yet. It's been pretty wet lately and I haven't experienced any slippage, hydroplaning etc. Dry grip is good. But then again, I don't drive hard and I've never had a real high end tire before. They are great bang for the buck IMO.

i hated my 712's... thought they sucked in wet conditions compared to all of my previous tires, and threadwear wasn't the greatest.. just my 0.02 i don't think i'd ever buy them again.. even considering the price..
