questions about GSR rear disc swap
 

Hi, I need to do a GSR rear disc swap on my car. I have a '94 Civic LX sedan with a JDM GSR motor swap. What size rotors will I be getting from a GSR? Can I use an OEM sized (same as front) Civic rotor in the rear? If not, can I still use the OEM sized rotors in the front? Also with the different rear suspension, does this affect the location of the wheel mounting surface (rubbing?), and can I still use my existing rear coilovers and shocks? This setup is just for daily driving by the way.

AS FOR THE ROTORS THING YOU HAVE TO USE GSR REAR ROTORS FOR THE REAR. AS FOR MOUNTING RIMS AS LONG AS THEY R 42 OR LESS OFFSET RIMS AND A 14 INCH OR BIGGER THEN YOU SOULDN'T HAVE A PROBLEM. YOU HAVE TO USE E BRAKE CABLES FORM THE GSR OR 92-93 CIVIC SI HATCH. AND HAVE TO CHANGE THE PROPORTIONING VALVE AND USE A 91 INTEGRA WITHOUT ABS BECAUSE IT IS A 40/40 WHICH IS WHAT YOU NEED.

So the mounting surface moves outward? I was able to fit rims with 45 offset before on my car (with rolled rear fenders), and my new rims are the same offset. How much bigger are the GSR rotors as compared to mine? (I know the sedans have slightly larger rotors than the hatches and coupes) What if I just go with larger front rotors? How big would I have to go to stop the car properly without messing up the brakes?

how much could I get a decent big brake kit for (for the front)? any suggestions?

wilwood and baer are :yummy: but super expensive. Depends if you want the nice show of wilwoods or baer. If you dont care i say go for gsr's, iv'e also heard of using accord wagon brakes which are apparantly huge aswell

So will I have to get springs, shocks, struts, designed for a GSR suspension? What a pain in the ass !!! If so, I might as well just go with a big brake kit for the front ?

I know there's a lot of you out there that have done this conversion! I need answers!!!

theres no need to need to change the shocks and springs. The big brake kits are useless without a better bb and mc so those are needed to make it work better. It all comes down to how much $$$ u got, if u got it go for it, but personally i would go with something like

Cool, so I can use my existing shocks and coilovers. What about the wheel mounting surface, does it remain in the same spot or does it move outwards? And I can just leave my OEM rotors as is in the front? This setup will provide adequate braking (for daily driving) for my car with the GSR swap? I just got my brakes done (OEM all around) but I'm pretty sure they will wear pretty fast if I keep the drums.

theres not too much benefit to jus doing the rears, do it all and you dont need to worry about it later on. As for drums, they last the longest, 5+ years

I don't care much about how fast the car is able to stop (its just for daily driving, and I don't drive the car hard anyways). I just want to be able to stop without messing up or wearing out my brakes faster than I should because of the swap. So in that case, can I get by with drums, or are the rear GSR discs enough, or do I need to beef up the front as well? Just the rear conversion is expensive enough as it is!

Can anybody recommend any good shops that would do this for cheap? Splitfire quoted me $600 for the rear conversion (includes labor and parts). I don't want to hunt for all the parts myself, I just want a complete kit from a shop.

most of the braking is done at the front, so id say if ur not gonna do both, jus do the fronts and upgrade the mc and bb

Is there anyone out there riding on stock brakes with a B series swap? (not likely I guess) or atleast with GSR rears and OEM fronts? or with a big brake kit in the front? I really appreciate your advice kwikb16a2, but I need more input from others!!! (the freakin' air freshener post got more replies than this one!) :confused:

can anyone recommend a somewhat cheap, but decent big brake kit? how are the AEM kits?
