question on unidirectional snow tires

a couple of years back, i was running xms alpins 330 205/60/15's and these were unidirectional snow tires. as logic dictates, one would think that the tires would get mounted in the direction of forward motion.

anyways one time, i went to a tire shop and the tech guy tells me that there are reasons why one would reverse the tire such that the undirectionality is reversed. he claimed that this was because it gave better handling. so i did it the one year like that and realistically speaking, i never noticed the difference, so the next year i went back to the conventional setup.

it made no sense or logic at all, but then i noticed a couple of cars who have it done this way. since they're strangers, i didn't want to ask them why they did it.

so i just wanted to know if anyone has hear or this "theory", what is the logic behind this, whether there's any truth to this or whether it just a bunch of bs.

thx

I dont see how mounting a tire backwards, when it is specifically designed to perform in one direction, would give any improvement whatsoever.

That's like saying your car has better aerodynamics when it's going in reverse...
