Question about turbo
Hey whats up guys I have a factory D15B7 moter in my 93 HB civic and I was wondering if I would be able to put a turbo on it. Something cheap and that wont blow the engine.
Is this possible without harming the enigine ? |
the words cheap and turbo never end up in the same sentence together... but to answer your question yes you can turbo it, you could run 5 psi on it safely...but its a waste of money imo, cuz that will only gain you about 50 hp, which will make your engine about 150hp, which is still slow....
savw your money and do an engin swap, it will be more reliable, and less headachs |
i'd check your plugs before doing anything
but you can turbo anything if you want to.... just depends how long it will last |
How much do you think everything that I need would cost me

Here lies the problem....Cheap.
Homemadeturbo.com is an awesome site; I've learned alot there. But theres also a few things you need to take into consideration than just slapping a turbo on......forking 1500-3000 is pretty much the bulk. But after your setup you also have to take into consideration of 1)nothing less than 91 octane fuel (94 recommended obviously) 2)increased fuel consumption (-30/40% decrease) 3)more frequent oil changes (cost depending on reg/syn) Its not cheap going turbo with todays gas prices, prolly an extra 100-150 bucks a month as opposed to stock.....as always it all depends on how you drive.........first couple months milage will suck ass; for obvious reasons :) |
well high octane gas doesn't cost THAT much, the difference would be about 10-15 cents per litter more than the normal gas, and after you fillup, about 2 bucks more expensive than low octane fuel. In return, you get MUCH better performance, better engine running, and better gas milage. (Who wouldn't want that?)
About the turbo, you could probably round off a home made kit for around $700-$800 (as I did, with my own labour power!) and settle with check-valves instead of stand alone engine management system. After all, its a D15 motor. There isn't much to invest in, so you want to finish the project as cheap as possible. And even if you lost the motor, you haven't taken much of a damage. But still you have 150-160 hp, with the crappy D15 and less than a grand into it. Thats about less than the price of a B16 and about the same output. Not a bad way to have some fun after all. However, don't forget that this is not a bolt-on project and is sensitive and hard work. Lots of patience and courage is required. And ofcourse, LOTS of work! (I guess it pays off at the end....) |
From what I have seen and dealt with, the only ways to squeeze some decent power out of Honda motors are either Nitrous, or boost! Nothing pays off as these 2 do, and no other mod or modS come even close.
Boost is the way to go, since un-like Juice, you have the extra power on tap, 24/7 (and isn't illegal either). Plus there is no bottle fillups($60 everyweek), and no fear of the bottle blowing up in hot days, and no chances of having your ride impounded due to Cops finding out what you've got. Boost is the way to go, IMO. |
ya I was a member way back in the day when that site was an unknown little pile of crap...I have been followign it for about 2-3 years now but an no longer a member....and yes they have soem 200 000 mile + cars making huge numbers (for a d series) the guy currently has a stock b20 vtec with a custom kit doing 12's or some ****.....your lookign at probobly 1500-2000 for a real nice setup with dsm injecotrs and a afc to trim them
