Question about LSDs

I was wondering, why do people generally buy trannies with LSD's already installed, like the Type-R, when they can install a phantom grip or whatever in their D16?. I was curious since people go crazy over LSD's...i dont even know what they do.

make sure you get good LSD... bad LSD can screw with your brain... flashbacks can come at very bad times...

good god... LSD has nothing to do with burnouts you primates

it has to do with putting down power to both wheels when exiting corners

Phantom Grip is a product I wouldn't even put in my trunk, let alone in my tranny. Either buy OEM tranny w/ LSD for a n/a application, or get yourself a Quaife and save yourself the headaches.

Have a LSD tranny put in with a ACT clutch on mine a couple of months ago. Big Big difference and like B said about exiting corners is where the big difference is.......

just want to re-iterate these people ARE right
with an open differential you will do a 1 wheel burn out
with a limited slip or locked differential you will spin both wheels
limited slip aids in delivering all the power you make to the ground

so most newbs say why not just LOCK both wheels together???
this will let me burn out 2 wheels.
while this is common on drag race vehicles, it is really bad for handling.
this is because when in a turn the speed of the outside wheel is different from the inside wheel. more specifically the outside wheels is spining faster then the inside.
this is why OEM (Usually in economy cars) puts Open differentials to allow your wheels to both spin at different speeds.

now a limited slip differential gives you the best of both worlds, it alows the wheels to have slightly different speeds, and it delivers 50% torque to BOTH wheels!

The reason people like to buy Trannies with factory LSD's is because a Quaife or KAZZ costs more then a Factory Tranny with LSD already installed. And since 99% of us arent running 600hp theres no need for Quaife and KAZZ Lsd's in most instances. And Phantom grip just sucks.

phantom grip IS NOT A REAL LIMITED SLIP....
it's just 2 blocks of metal with some springs that slide aroudn in your stock open diff... within a few thousand K's the phantoms have a tendancy not to work. PHANTOM GRIP IS GARBAGE!
