Question about Heat Shields

Well, I'm getting this nice tin scraping sound everytime my engine's warm and I rev over 2.5K - Heard it's the heat shield and that I should just tear it off

a) is that a good idea?

I looked under the car, and I think there's two heat shields no? one is bolted to the car, and the other is closer to the front and is welded to the exhaust piping?

b) which one (if any) should I take off?

I removed all my heatshield from my old car... cuz they were rusty and making noise...imo, remove the one(s) that are causing the noise and/or buy a big *** heatshield clamp and clamp em down

heatshields are there for a reason and I would recomend keeping them if you can. they are non essential, but over time the components around the area will fail sooner due to extra radiant heat.

try and fix it, but best if left there...
if not remove it and get the heat wraps and wrap those headers, give a sport look too and functional

the rear ones i do not recomend takeing off. My ebrake cable seized from the heat transfer... and removeing the front one causes the bolts that hold the center dash to the floor to seize...incase you ever want to remove your interior carpet for cleaning or dying or replacement... The sheilds over the manifold are ok to remove...

Heat wraps are available at most car parts store, I believe. You can even try NAPA.

IMO, if it ain't broken, don't bother with it. I think one of my heat shield was removed cause it rusted out. The other ones I didn't touch.

Heat wraps are really not a good idea, I have talked with a number of mechanics and they have all stated the alot of the time header rap will actually cause cracks in headers to appear beacause it holds so much heat in.
