question about AEM CAI
 

i bought one off a guy off the boards!

now i got a question!
it does have a puncture in the bottom, but i can fix that with some silicone... and i also want to put styrofoam to protect it, where can i get this stuff????

also,, there is 2 holes for the tubes to fo in it.....
there is the normal one, that usually is not needed but it goes where people replaces it with a breather filter...

and the other hole.... WTF is it for?? is for a sensor???
i nneed to know this info before i install.....

so i can run and get clamps at Home dept to put my filter on!

p.s some guy at work mentioned its not good to have a CAI b/c it takes longer for the engine to warm up!
is this true or is this guy on crack????

I dont know how a cold air induction would make a car take longer to warm up...since its the oil and coolant that gets "warm" and creates the heat...the air just makes the car run...now gas mileage is another story.

where is the puncture? and where do u wanna put styrofoam?

dont use a breather filter its a $375 ticket (gets reduced to $100 if un goto court)

as far as the other hole I believe its a sensor thats on the stock piping for intake air temp or somethin like that...its on the stock piping...or the other dude was using nitrous and thats where he had the nitrous jet installed...I dont know how these newer cars and all their sensors work!

The 2 holes:

One should be a metal tube: this is where u connect a tube form the vavle cover to intake. Putting a breather on the valve cover is not good, and like someone mentioned, against the law.

Other connector should have a rubber gromet on it, this is for the air temp. sensor from your stock intake. Just a straight plug and play.

In general, any tubes or sensors going to your stock intake will also go to the CAI.

While we are on this topic. I'm getting the K&N FIPK Kit. 57-3512. Anyhow. Is the Air sensor hard to take off the stock intake tube. Oh and what do you think about the Kit I'm getting.

one hole is for the intake air temp sensor, IAT, the other is for the positive crankcase ventilation from the valvecover breather. Finally, fix whatever needs fixing correctly, don't run the risk of your silicone repair getting sucked into the intake and through your engine. Just a thought. You can get big ass rubber hose and slip it over the puncture and clamp it down. Otherwise, if the hole is on the filter, just replace the filter.

the puncture hole is barely noticeable, i fixed it at work during working hours!! hahaha dumb supervisor spends more time in his office playing on the internet! but HEY... my machine was runninbg so i wasnt ****** no DOG!

just threw some silicone on it.. and on top of the silicone, i threw 5 minute epoxy on it! now its freakin hard! thats a good thing. i also got some PIGMAT ( its like an oil absorber for people who dont know ) and will throw it over the scratches to cusion the BLOW if my CAI decided to go dancing without me!

p.s the scratch is the common thing near the bottom by the filter.. it keeps hitting something.. i forgot who posted a pic of it!

Here is a pic of mine installed. The hole with the grommet (closest to the TB) is for the sensor, the tube is for the valve cover breather, and the third hole (you can barely see it by the two silver stickers) isn't used. I just plugged it.

Also.. does anyone know the size of the gromet needed? Mines missing (hence the red tape)

professor... looks like the tape is closer to the PCV breather than it is where the grommet is. The grommet is closer to the throttle body, and that's where the IAT goes. The second hole where you got the tape it looks like, that should be a nipple fitting that you can hoseclamp that hose to. Please clarify which is missing.

also, I don't know the size of the grommet, but they are cheap enough that you can go to Home Depot and pick up each one they have in stock that looks about right, and prolly still not spend more than two bux :)

do you have a vernier? it'd be easy to measure the ID of the hole and the OD of the sensor, and just match it up to something commercially available.

Nope.. :( I'll take your advice and get a whole bunch of them from Home Depot.. maybe ill just get one of there mixed packs.

Is the sensor supposed to be closest to the TB or is it correct how it is now? I noticed DumbasSi has his the other way.

BTW.. why do some AEM CAI have 2 holes while some others have 3 (like mine)?

I usually have seen only two holes... did you install it or someone else? do you have your stock intake still? See on there how many connections it has on the stock one.

i had a CAI on my Neon. no big diff when it came to warming anything considering it was the Antifreeze and oil that did that
