question

My car is going through ALOT of oil. It's not leaking, so It's obviously burning it. I'm getting a compression test done today. Depending on the results, I may need a new engine. I drive a stock '97 EX.

If I were to get another engine, (I don't have SIR or GSR money)
What engines are available for a descent price? And how much installed? I would like to get something a little more powerful than my wimpy stock one and don't really know what's out there.
Are there any that could just bolt up and plug in, or no?

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

SIR and GSR are for the mos part bolt on engines and go. There are several parts you will have to replace when going b series. money could range from $3000.00 to $6000.00 depending on what you want and what your wallet will allow you

you can get 96-97 d-series motors as cheap as $400.00 if you low ball a guy or Japanese engine importers will probably sell that for about 600.00 with warrenty. typically a stock install will cost about $400.00. count on extra cost if your changing the water pump and timing belt, which should be done with any motor you buy.

I can't afford the B16 or the B18.
How much can I get a CRV(B20 is it?) for? Or perhaps a DOHC ZC for?

dont buy a zc.

B18/b20's for the full swap is around $1000-2000 depending on what tranny you use, and tune-up parts, swap parts (new or used), etc.

What are the hp ratings for each of the engines?
Would I be able to use my stock tranny?
Are any of these VTEC?

imported_Cablerat 24-Jun-2007 04:19 PM

B18b (integra) and b20(CRV) are around the same I believe. 140ish HP

Neither have VTEC. Only the B18C1(GSR) and C5(TYPE-R)

No you cannot use your stock tranny. RIght now you are a D-Serious engine / tranny. You will need a B-Series tranny to fit a B series engine.

also as Chris mentioned, stay away from ZCs.. THey are obsolete and it's very rare to find one in good shape.
