Problem with Prelude transmission

On-board sensors sample Prelude's wheel speed, steering angle and any lateral slippage, then a computer analyzes the data to see if the car actually follows the driver's chosen steering line. If understeer is detected, the computer sends more engine torque to the outboard front wheel to compensate for slippage and point the nose back into the turn. "
I don't think so Michelle. Even if you could just change the differential (which I doubt) you'd still be looking at a helluva lotta electronics. I recommend Quaife for a robust, cost effective solution. At $800 USD, it's a great deal. |
yeah a LSD is your best bet. But they aren't exactly cost effective, even if you do your own labour.

It looks to me that there is really nothing I can do without changing the transmission to manual. That is not going to happen as long as it is my daily driver, and when I get something new I'll have let it go (unless I win the lotto).

oh... you know what, I never even thought about an auto tranny with LSD. they do exist, but I don't know if you can add it in. I guess you could but I don't know. you'd have to call Quaife and ask

The problem is understeer for me. Never noticed until I changed the suspension. Mainly when accelerating on the on ramps.

if understeer is the problem there are suspension things you can do that would be way cheaper and way more reliable than diggin into the drivetrain.
again, I forget what your setup is, but for starters I'd use some custom rate springs for the rear and look into rear sway bar products, prolly ones from suspension techniques, progress, comptech, and maybe even eibach. these will help your on/off ramp adventures greatly. my sway bars have made a huge difference in the attitude of my car. also, it would be beneficial for you to have a manual tranny so you can adjust your entry in the correct gear and at the right speed, then control weight transfer (and therefore balance of the car) using mild throttle inputs. when you need more rotation you let off the throttle, and when it starts to spin out you apply more throttle. explore the limits of your modified suspension at the track so you don't get caught by surprise. most importantly drive safely, which I know you do anyways, but that's more for anyone else reading this :) |

i just put my rear gsr sway bar on the teal hatch and its by far the best suspension mod you can do hands down... 14 mm is a little thin though... but have to raise the bar and get a beaks kit :)
