problem

i've had my car on the raod for a week now.. and last night i went to cayuga.. but it seems my rev limiter is at 7400rpm.. its a first gen b16 with a pr3 ecu

also vtec kicks in at 4400 rpm
sounds like it could be an ecu problem?
i've heard that the guys i bought my engine off use canadian ecu's from hperduck.. and they aren't proper.. but i'm not sure..
does this sound as if its an ecu problem ?

imported_gatherer 13-Aug-2004 12:35 AM

that sounds ok tome? what don't you like about those settings?

Gunmetalef 13-Aug-2004 12:48 AM

well the b16 rev limiter shouldn't kick in till 8200rpm and vtec issuppose to be.. ( i think ) 5200 rpm

Middlemiss 13-Aug-2004 01:46 AM

get a proper ecu..

Gunmetalef 13-Aug-2004 12:34 PM

well apperently it is.. B16a's need either PR3 or PR0 ecu's and this is a PR3 .. thats why i want to make sure these symptoms are from an ecu and not from sumthing else.. i dun want to waste money on an ecu that wont change a thing

I have a b16 with a pr3 Vtec kicks in around 5200-5400 and readline is around 8300. I would say you have a ckipped ecu.

Gunmetalef 13-Aug-2004 01:10 PM

thats what i assumed with the Vtec kicking in so early.. but what about the rev limiter?

imported_Cablerat 13-Aug-2004 02:26 PM

rev limiter is also programmed thru the chip.

Gunmetalef 13-Aug-2004 02:28 PM

so what i open up the ecu and see if there is one in there?
if so can i jus take it out?
and why would n e one buy a chip the lowers the rev limiter?

If the vtec is kicking in at 4400, your max power is probably coming out at lower rpm too, so why would you need 8200 rpm if max power is earlier, and then drops off.

so they dont blow the motor

if you can find a buddy or someone on here that can burn ecu's you'll be ok... b16's need the rpms to make power so you'll probably gain power using a proper ecu  since max power is at 7800 rpms in stock trim :drivesafe

Gunmetalef 13-Aug-2004 11:54 PM

is the chip removable and all is well.. or should i just buy a new one?

ohmstable 14-Aug-2004 12:23 AM

Chip is removable, however you'll have to intall another one in it's place for the ecu to work. I might be able to help you out, drop me a PM.

Gunmetalef 26-Aug-2004 11:40 PM

well i did open my ecu up today and there is no chip...
its weird..

but i borrowed a nice authenitc SPOON ecu :yummy:
noticed a HUGE difference

imported_gatherer 27-Aug-2004 06:41 AM

can you post pictures of the inside of your ECU...? ( so that those that are here can see whats going on in there,... :p

also is teh ECU throwing any codes?

Gunmetalef 28-Aug-2004 01:01 AM

well when i changed them.. it threw secondary O2 sensor.. just as a punched the gas.. then i changed them again .. same light.. sometimes it never goes off.. but sometimes it does.. is it anything to worry about?

and i'll take a picture later
