"Preformance" Muffler Question

Sorry for the n00b question but I have searched and haven't been able to find an answer.
Please keep in mind that when I refer to a "performance" muffler that it is a muffler other than stock, not a muffler that will actually give me performance gains.

I was told when inquiring about one for sale that a performance muffler will not pass or not be acceptable when doing emissions testing. Is there truth to this?

Reason being is that I need a new muffler for my 95EG and don't really want to shell out money and find out later this year when I have to do emissions that I cannot use the muffler. Currently I can purchase a used muffler for cheaper than a new OEM one. Unless someone would like to sell me one?

Flame on

just the muffler itself wont give you any gains, except more noise compared to OEM....you are better off get a full catback exhaust system

you shouldn't have a problem with passing emissions. it takes quite a bit of engine modification/ bolt ons to fail an emission test with a honda.

as stated by peter, i'd go with a full cat back exhaust. not much point in just going with a muffler.

You can easily pass emissions with a "Perfomance exhaust" where you have to be careful is with the catlytic coverter. But even performance cats pass emmisions.

Thanks guys for the responses.

Not to sound rude, but I'm aware that a muffler will not give any performance gains (cetainly not on a D series). That's why I'm all about cost.

Cheers
