It's a lot of work and quite expensive. Most people are swayed away with the idea.

For the hassle, I'd rather get a car with PS rather than installing it.

I personally hate the extra steering effort at really low speeds without power steering (too used to my Talon TSi). I'm getting a 1991 Civic CX with a DOHC VTECH engine already installed... how much effort is it to equip it with power steering? What arguements other than pure straightline performance and fuel economy are there against getting it?

Isn't there a way to hook up Power Steering to run completely off the battery? In normal cars... it's pulls power from the engine so you lose power... however.. I thought in hybrid cars (as in battery powered/gas powered... not engine swapped)...they're powered COMPLETELY off the battery.

Power steering is a hydraulic system on 99% of cars out there... there may be 1% of cars with servo-type systems, but... unlikely. Not that I've heard of anyways. There is really no argument against power steering. The 3 flywheel horses that you may lose is more than made up for in comfort level. When you have sticky tires, you'll know what I mean. Rally drivers have power steering, NASCAR drivers have power steering (I don't know why...I thought their cars had the wheels fixed to permanently make a 1 mile oval... ) Cart has power steering....I don't think I have to go on...

dopey, if there was ever in the series of 4th gens a car that came with power steering, then it's easy to bolt in. Start off with the 1991 Civic Si, or CRX Si, and see if it had power steering. If so, go to a junk yard and pick it clean of the hydraulic pump, reservoir, lines, and hydraulic steering rack. Clean everything, put new tierods on, bolt everything up, bleed the system, align it, and you have power steering.

Manual Rack & Pinion, HB (3 Dr), exc. SI

Manual Rack & Pinion, HB (3 Dr), SI
Power Rack & Pinion, SW (5 Dr), MT
Power Rack & Pinion, exc. SW
Power Rack & Pinion, SW (5 Dr), AT

This was a car-part.com search for 1991 Honda Civic steering box/rack, and this is what resulted. Choose the Pwr Rack & Pinion, exc. SW (station wagon), and this should give you what you're looking for. It can be rigged up... $200 of junkjard parts and you got it. CRXs never came with power steering, but I think they share the firewall and subframe with the Civic. Ask in the CRX Resource forums, someone there may have experince with it... Good luck

Oh, also, you should use a B-series power steering pump...I forgot you had a swap, so when buying a power steering pump, remember that detail!! Take note of the belt type you need, and get a pump with a b-series bracket. The hydraulic lines need to be from the Civic still (cus they follow the chassis, not the engine).

Hmm... sounds like jdmcivic.com (I got booted from there) except not old and senial, they're young and in puberty. And when your 15 and their little dick is hard w/ no one to take care of it, they tend to flame
