Possible oil pan leak???

I was at the honda dealership where I get my oil changes done on the weekend and after the kid that stalled my car on the way in (another story), put the car up on the jack, noticed some oil on the backside of my oil pan. He thought it was possiblly a leak from the oil pan gasket. Any other causes? I'm not leaking/loosing/buring oil from what I know since I check the level ever couple weeks, but sorta concerned where it couldv'e come from. The other guy that worked there was like: "you race alot?" I'm like no way man, how could I, it's a DX? heheh

anyway, the car's still under warrenty, so am gonna get it checked out this week i hope.

Since you are under warranty, get it checked out at the dealership. Also try and take a look under your car as often as you can to see if you can see anything leaking and also keep an eye on the places that you park for any oil stains.

Yea, I'm getting it looked at this sat. The guy made an appointment.

Question thou: since the car is in warrenty, this little 'checkup' isn't gonna cost anything right? or it shouldn't? and even if they fix/replace something all the parts/labour are covered for?

TIA... since I've never got anything fixed under warrenty.

Shouldn't cost you anything for them to check it out. Depending if the part is under warranty, you may have to pay for the repair, but if it is covered, then it shouldn't cost you anything.

I just had a faulty sensor replaced on my car by Acura last week, and it didn't cost me anything.

Good luck

Cool.. Thanks EL_Sport! :)
Finally getting some use outta that damned warrenty I hope. (I told em about a couple other things to check out like noisy AC compressor and fan blower motor.)

Honda can put a dye into the oil so that after a couple of days you go back and they use a UV light to see where it's coming from. This would be the best way to check where the oil is coming from.

The old style (stamped steel) Honda oil pans gaskets were known to leak.
The newer aluminum pan shouldn't until the car has seen a bit of age.

If it's coming from the back, there could also be a possibility that they didn't clean up the area after doing the oil change. The oil filter is at the back, and once you take it off, it'll make a little mess on the backside of the block.

It may just be when they replaced the oil filter, some oil dripped down and the mechanic didn't bother wiping it off.

vince: what color are the older stamped steel pans? it's a '98 and the pan was black. so i hope it's not the older kind leaking.

good point both of you bout the oil change making a mess when the oil was being changed, yea come to think of it, it was on that side closest to the filter. lets hope it's just leftover oil! :)

the upside is hopefully they'll do summin bout the AC comp wheezing like a person with asthma in a poppy field!
