Please Help

I gotta a problem my B16 sounds like its a diesel engine...Does anyone ou there know what could be wrong?

what part of it sounds like a diesel... from the exhaust, or from the engine itself... what year engine, what mods, how many miles, MIL/CEL, lack of power, smoke in exhaust, etc... more detail!!!

Asking a question like that is useless... it's like me calling a doctor and saying... "Doc, my *** is purple, what do you think it is?"

I know it was vauge..... The engine itself is a is JDM b16a, it has roughly 50k on it. There are no internal mods but it has a dc sports header, and an AEM intake along with a ITR exhaust... The motor itself sound like a diesel. Power is there no smoke from the exhaust.

Don't drive it.... you'll cause more damage. Pull the plugs and inspect each one, checking for physical damage, glazed spots, excessive gaps, etc. Use a compression gauge (Walmart- under $20 if you don't have one) and check compression on all 4 cylinders. Should be about 175-190 psi I guess. Has there been any work on the engine done? Can you localize the noise more... like the AC compressor or something? Put the plugs back in... start the car, check oil pressure and water pressure... watch the temperature... let the car warm up, check the idle, then check your timing... make sure the timing belt didn't skip a notch. That's most likely the source of your problem. If this doesn't turn up the problem, and you are not able to locate the noise... time to get dirty and check the internals... you'll have to drop the oil pan and start checking clearances... Well It runs great with no lose in performance, it doesn't have a/c and the noise is more like a ticking towards the passenger side.... any ideas with that little info?

Could be a sticky valve too... is it coming from under the valve cover, or from a nearby accessory?

I am leaning towards a valve....See I am getting my hands dirty into the wrenching business but I couldn't quite figure it out.....I haven't checked the valve lash since I got the engine last spring.... I think it may be coming from the valve cover.

You'll have to pull the valve cover and do the valve lash adjustment. Take a look inside for bits that look out of order. Start it up after you button everything up, and hopefully everything is okay. But no way it sounds like a diesel.... I hear a diesel noise coming from a gas car, and I say my final goodbyes... you know... usually means the bottom end has shaken itself to death. LOL

Yeah I know I work at a gas station so I hear diesels all the time but I kinda over reacted cause I think my bady doesn't sound right....But I'll get a manual and see what I need to do the valve lash adjustment...Thanks again bb

No prob... a valve lash adjustment is a peice of cake... just pop the cover, find TDC for each cyl and adjust away... all you need is a feeler gauge, and a really little torque wrench for the valve cover bolts... good idea to change the gasket while you're at it. so be sure you have some RTV silicone around. The only tools you need are a large socket for the crank bolt to turn the engine, a 10mm open ended wrench and a flat screwdriver to make the adjustment, and just regular tools to get the valvecover off.
