Platinum Plugs & Fouling

This kind of continues off a thread regarding idling.

I've been fouling my spark plugs over the winter months 'cuz I let my car idle in the mornings, though I'll idle it less now that I know what it's doing.

So I was wondering, are platinum/iridium plugs less prone to fouling?

no, the temperature range is a constant throughout all brands/ core material... if you put in a colder plug than honda recomends than thats your problem..

the only plugs I knwo of that are better for fouling are form my day's in the 2 stroke arena I use to use resistor racing ngk's..the electro on it was as fine as a needle..good old br9 egv

anyway the only reason for fouling it the engine running to rich and the plugs not workign in their heat range which I'm sure you are fine with...soemthign is up with your engine..check your o2 sensor it is probobly making it run rich as a pig

OBD2 has 2 O2 sensors, if one is out, it would throw a code cuz the ECU compares values from both to make sure the O2s are functional AND that the cat converter is effective.

do you lug around in high gear and not rev your motor?

Don't lug around too much in high gear ... I guess sometimes when 1st gear resists at low speeds and I just accel in 2nd.

I was idling my car for up to 20 minutes when we were getting negative 30 weather last week...

My current gas tank also has that STP fuel injector cleaner in it, which may contribute to the rich fuel mixture?

Maybe the ECU is throwing a code and I'm not seeing it... my high beam indicator is always lit on my dash.

No worries. I abandoned the lengthy idling already.

good to hear...

i forgot to mention idling builds deposits on your internals, and reduces performance significantly over time, and it kills gas milage... so thats enough incentive right there to not idle for a long time!
