Question Place to do headwork / valvejob?

Am thinking about doing a valvejob/port/polish jobbie.... does anyone know places? What's the going rate (for the headwork ;-) ?

Thanks,

FL.

Welcome to TCC! I don't know too many places, but here is a good place to start http://www.japanese-auto.com/main.html This man is known as the most knowledgable man in Ontario when it comes to tuning, I think he may know a good place Other than that Leitner and Busch do a lot of high perf engines, so they prob have a flow bench and a die grinder lying around

It may be in your best interest to join the club and take advantage of our affiliates. We are just working something out now with arguably the best machine shop in the GTA, if not Canada.

Yes becoming a member does and will have its benefits. Definately call Leitner and Bush. They are great and thay is where most reputable shops send the engines to do the work you are talking about.

IMO, Yoshio is a money-grubbing bastard with no idea what the term "customer service" means. He used to be good, but I wouldn't let him touch my car nowadays.

L&B is probably the most common place used for Canadian shops. I've seen some discouraging things from them recently, so I'm not so sure I want to use them anymore. Portflow gets my nod for headwork, and Golden Eagle gets my nod for block work. Ofcourse, both are in Cali, but you get what you pay for.

I don't know you, but you dont know business

YOSHIO ISN:T MONEY GRUBBING DRIVERS ARE CHEAP BASTARDS
and he gets shortchanged all the time so he is forced to charge high to some to make a living but he is a really great guy and if you are good to him he will show you the ways of the TRUE JDM TUNER.

when some one disses up one of my friends on the net, i say go asfsuck your ignorant self...that guy could build a turbo hybrid before you installed an intake and comming from a toyota guy i am astonished at your opinion...in ontario who has imported all the new celica stuff and given everyone a fair amount of knowledge.. but you did say IYO so ok we are all entitled to one...but please try to keep the slander down it's only a way to show the world your ignorance.

YOSHIO dosn't work on my car cause i enjoy doing all my own work and can perform MOST BUT NOT ALL of the work he does but watch what you say about peoples friends on this site man there is no need to bad mouth eachother all it's going to do is cause hatred on this board....

both of us are visitors and we both should behave ourselves...

and both of us are fans of the 3sgte and as far as i know he is FAR AND AWAY the most versed in not on;y that engine but also the 4AGE, and the 5SFE. Even newer engines liek the 2z and **** are like old news to that guy....

show some love for ontario's REAL tuners and

STOP THE HATE and EDUCATE

MartinGouda,
You wanna hear a story about Yoshio? Here goes. One of the local MR2 club members has dropped about $20k at Yoshio's over the last few years (Blitz turbo kit, full motor buildup, etc.). You may know the guy. Anyways, first problem. Yoshio builds the motor and gives the car back telling him to break it in before tuning. Fine. He comes back a month later to tune, and Yoshio keeps pushing him off. I dunno about you, but shouldn't this guy go to the FRONT of the line being that he was there before? But noooooo. He's too busy raping other people up the *** for money. Meanwhile, all this time, the car was running like total ****.

Fast forward a bit. He finally gets the car into the shop, and the idiot tells him that the turbo is blown. Yoshio sold him the turbo kit (and raped him at the same time doing so), and it barely had any mileage on it. Hell, how could it? Yoshio takes sooooo damned long to do any type of work. I told my buddy to take the turbo elsewhere for a second opinion. He took it to J&R turbo who ripped it apart and put it back together for $400. The diagnosis: NOTHING wrong with the turbo. There goes $400 down the drain.

Fast forward some more. Everyone knows Yoshio is big on his Techtom ECU crap (I wasted money on it). All this time, he couldn't get the Techtom/VPC combo to run right. Dunno why. Tonnes of other MR2 owners have it running perfect on all difference setups. Anyways, he then rapes the guy up the *** for an Autronic setup, but STILL can't get it running right. Nice "tuner" he is.

That's where the story stands now, and my buddy is waiting to have it car tuned by someone who knows what they're doing (ie. Ultimate Racing or something).

Comments? He's a money-grubbing bastard if you ask me.

b16civic,
The names Tony Leung and Mark (****, don't remember his last name) ring a bell? He has a turbo Lude. That's all I'll say.

Neither of you know me personally, but those that do will know that I call it like it is. Prove me wrong, and I will speak what is true. I can't stand it when people get ripped off, so I do my best to try and prevent it. Simple as that.

In all fairness it's his right to inform everyone of his experience, but I wish we had a first hand account of what happened to the turbo lude that he speaks of. This would not discourage me from checking out any shop, but it's good to see that there are opinions out there. Buyer beware, cause once I hand the money over....it's done. I have lost any bargaining power as to the quality of work. b16civic, I understand your frustration, as there is little you can do about this slander. Continue to do top notch work, and continue to build a good name for yourself, and this kind of slander will hold water like a siv...no one will pay attention. As for now, we don't know. Do you back your work up? I mean, I have heard great things, but that one in 500 engines that comes back to you, do you take care of it?

You've gotta know Tony. He has a green 94-01 GS-R. He posts with the nickname Tony the Tiger and is very well-known in the Toronto scene.

Do you see me bitching about other shops? Do you see me say anything about Speedtech or KS-R when they're mentioned? Nope. Why? Cause they haven't given me any reason to bitch about. I call it like I see it. I don't make the stuff up.

Oh, and I do have a shop. I'm proud to say I don't have any unsatisfied customers. Go and ask some of our fellow TCC members.

I don't remember the entire story since it's been a while, but if you go and check either the TPC board or Honda-Tech.com, you'll probably find it. Mark posts under the nickname Dirtylude.

MartinGouda,
Tony just broke in a new motor, but his last motor broke because of an overtightened rod bolt. It wasn't done by Yoshio.

b16civic,
We have a warehouse, but no retail showroom. The business has been around for 2 years or so.

Ummm, okay. For headwork, my vote goes for Portflow or Alaniz Tecnologies if you want the absolute best and can afford it financially and have the downtime. If you want it done locally, you don't really have many other choices other than CCHT or L&B. I believe there are one or two other places, but their names slip my mind right now.

yes, we back our work up, any problems and we resolve them if you come to us. it has always been that way. you heard it first hand bro....oh and is your shop more than a web site?
that was the dumbest thing to say...have u been to L&B? they muck up everything. i never once heard a good thing about them...all my friends who go track racing dont go to L&B and go to other machine shops to get their cars worked on...

Steve-o - it must be lonely at the top buddy. You know your shop is doing something right when everyone is talking about it. And as for these haters - bah! Don't sweat it - it's funny that someone always knows someone who had work done at L&B but noone has ever had any work done there themselves. It's kinda like that girl that went to my highschool that stuffed the frozen weeny in her 'dirty place'... you follow me.
