Pistons and Displacements

I have a B16a, its a JDM spec, the compression is 10.6:1
1.6 litre

now how did the B16a get such high compression?
i heard it uses USDM type R pistons?? is this tru? but how if those are 1.8 liter pistons

so my question is..... can u use 1.8 type r pistons in a b16a??
or any other ones?:box:

The B16A pistons have a higher compression dome than the Type R ones. If you stuck B16A pistons in a Type R block, you'd get a very nice bump in compression :nods:

If you want even higher compression in your B16A, and you want to stick with OEM Honda, you stick in Civic Type R pistons, they have the highest dome of all the B series pistons.

Anything bigger is aftermarket and likely forged :nods:

If you stuck in Type R pistons from an Integra into a B16A, you will lose compression, good for boost, but you might as well get some even flatter pistons to get super low compression for easy tuning of the turbo setup you may go with :p

yeah, you're able to intercahnge b16a and iTR pistons because the stock piston diameter is the same (stock bore size is the same). the difference in displacement is due the b16's having a shorter stroke.

thats the answer...bore is the same...stroke on a 1.8 is longer!

Perfect!! so if i'm doing an All motor setup i should just keep my pistons then?? or get CIVIC Type R ones??? i doubt i'm gonna have enough money for boost, i just purchased stgII cams, gears, springs and reatainers, and intake manifold all from Skunk2.

stick with ur sir pistons....shave ur head...or get a thinner head gasket to raise ur compression....just make sure u stick with high octane

Cool!! i knew i could change the pistons around, but wasn't 100% sure! i think i will probably keep these ones and just get a spoon or mugen head gasket. also quick question, Are Civic Type R pistions worth the $$$? or should i rather get forged?

dingus88 12-Mar-2004 07:40 PM

ctr's arent' worth the $$ jsut get forged...and yes stick with yoru current pistons for now and just get a mugen head gasket...then later down the road get some wiseco's or srp's on you b16 rods for a nice setup
