performance mods on an automatic?

does anyone do this? is it worth it?

obviously in a race an automatic would be at a disadvantage, but what if you just want more power for bootin' around town? my car is good enough for me at higher revs, but i wonder if there is something i could do to give it a bit more power on the low end. i heard cold air intakes add more on the high end, but can actually rob you of power at lower rpms. would an exhaust help?

pretty much you will waste money trying to get power out of that motor. the most you will see is minimal gains with simple bolt on mods (intake, header, exhaust). It's a d series motor, just get used to it, lol.

nothing shy of a turbo, nitrous, or supercharger will help an automatic civic , maybe a auto to manual swap, exaust and cai together might give you 2 horsepower but your automatic tranny robs alot off you !!!!!!!

weight is the keyword...basically take some junk in your car like your tires, jack, heck even back seats, hood and trunk(change to CF). and don't forget light weight rims and tires...pretty sure you'll see some ponies come out of that d-engine

getting light weight rims is one of the best mods you can do to a low torque car like a civic.

I would suggest a supercharger if you are running an automatic. Superchargers, their powerband is linear and consistant throughout, no lag.

But ya lightweight wheels will help lots, I'm just curious on the best lightweight rims there are that dont cost an arm and a leg

While your at it, what are the lightest tire to compliment them rims? Obviously quality.

go konig heliums or rotas if price is a concern. i'm not sure how much tires of the same profile varies in weight though. probably more or less the same.

uhhh are you sure his tranny can handle that much extra power if boosted? i wouldn't even bother. like everyone said here, weight reduction. hood and trunk will shave you like that 18 and 9 pounds each. rims can save you another 12 pounds or so. you're lighter by around 30 pounds now but i'm not sure if you'll feel it or not. get some cheap headers, cheap exhaust, and cheap intake if you're still not satisfied but that is as far as i would go with an automatic civic. dumping anymore money into it would be a complete waste.

ya.. i wouldn't take the seats out.. i mean a 4-door race car, stripped interior, that's funny to me

i MIGHT take the spare tire out and get nicer rims.. i have CAA plus and a can of tire sealant, and was going to get nicer rims anyways. i doubt it will make much difference..

but anyways now i don't have to WONDER, i know it's not really worth it

Has anyone find a great price on those Konig Helium 15"?

I have a EH2 (93 Civic DX HB). Would the Konig Helium 15x6.5" work in my ride without any problems? Which offset would I get? 40? Do I need a hub-centric ring?

There should be tire weights as well. Rims are weighed, why not tires?

Edit: I didn't know there were lots more than tires and rims. There are hub-centric rings, etc. I guess you really have to match them up correctly. Its not as easy as buying and slapping them on.

tires are generally the same weights and lighter tires = less rubber

I'm in same boat as you lowprofile.... drive an auto, wouldn't mind a bit more oomph...

I drive downtown traffic everyday... I got so sick and tired of shifting... I'm not going to race so this isn't an issue.

My only problem is, I go camping a lot with a heavy load (say 4 people with all the gear and two mountain bikes on top) and the d15's 100 ponies won't do much! Let's just say I won't be passing anything on the highway.

I've known a lot of civicphiles... and have sought a lot of opinions, they all do not recommend power mods to automatics... as it already has problems putting power to the ground...

Basically, I'm planning on running my d15 to the ground and just replacing it with a jdm d15b or d16 when it dies... 30+ horsies (though not to the ground)... should be at least better than the stock...

And like someone said (not sure who posted it), just buy used cheap intake, headers, exhaust system... the cheaper the better... after all you won't be racing, like me...

Off topic, 205/50/15 tires can weight between 18 to 23lbs each.
