got my car back from the shop few days ago, neways the cars been sitting, i go and stasrt it the other day and it started to overheat....today i was playin around with it and noticed that when the car was on and fan, one side of the rad was ncie and cool and the other side of the rad was warm, so rpetty much half the rad was cool and half warm........nebody got ne ideas as to what it could b?........is my rad clogged maybe?.........iv got it out of the car and im gonna rinse it all out and see if that helps......also one of the inlets was full of anti freeze that go from the rad to the motor and the other on the other side was bone dry, and was the hose that goes to the thermostat. this is on my mustang btw

First ensure that your thermostat is openning up.

Start the car, let it warm up.. once the fan comes on or car gets hot, touch the return coolant line.. It should be hot.. if it is, then the thermostat is working.

is it a clutch fan? don't know my american cars. Otherwise I'm assuming the coolant temp sensor works and is turning the fan on. Aside from that, check an make sure the rad is not worn out.. all the fins still there and in good shape?

the fan actually works on a switch.....i can manually swithc it on and off, dont ask me the reson y he did this because i dunno, i figure its becase he put an older motor into the car and didnt wanna bother hookin it up proper etc....the fins on the rad r pretty good theres a few bent 1's....and the hose that goes to the thermostat gets hot.....also my overflow tank overflowed as well once it got heated up.....i find the one half of the rad cool and the other warm to b weird....

So wait a minute.. one of the coolant lines was bone dry?? It's gotta be the return line.. make sure.. cuz if there's no coolant coming from the motor back to the rad then the thermostat might be shot and NOT openning..

I think he put the fan switch so he could keep the car cool at all times if he needed too. Racing purposes...

^ ya i agree, yah i took teh rad right out,shook it around and no noises, i also filled it with water to make sure that water would come out the other end and it did jsut to make sure it wasnt clogged....i might jsut go buy a new thermostat and put it in and flush the rad right out, and yeah the switch was for what u suggest id gather cuzz theres also another switch under the hood to turn the fan on and off, im gonan tinker with it tommorow again after i install a new thermostat, flush the rad, add all new coolant and then see what happens.....the thing that i find so weird is how the rad was warm on one side and cool on the other, also wen i took the hose off that join to the thermostat housing it was hot and a buit of smoke was in it, that hose joins to the side of the rad that is the warmer side.

If you try to flush the rad out, you may not get the crap out of it. If one side is hot, other side cold, the rad is plugged. May have to buy a new one. Try one of the rad flush solutions first.

A themostat for a 302 is like what $15

it was in the shop getting a new lakewood drag suspension put in it, and the carb all tuned and re jetted.
