over heating

i got a 92 civic ex 4 door and everything seems all right with the engine, i took it to a garage that usually is really good with hondas and he said its just running hot because its a hot day and i have headers so it gives off alot of heat...........it dont start getting over heated until i get around 130-150 on a really hot day around 110-120.........is this normal and would ceramic headers help much?? thanks

bullshit mechanic :fustrated

is the needle high but steady, or will it creep in the red zone if not attended to? Is this in traffic or on the hwy?

imported_haymaker 07-Aug-2003 04:27 PM

highway only and it start to creep up

bbarbulo 07-Aug-2003 04:31 PM

may be air bubbles in your rad, faulty thermostat (most likely), or an old and failing rad. Is anything blocking air flow? In city traffic do you hear the rad fan kick in?

Jugglez 07-Aug-2003 04:35 PM

there is soemthign very wrong with your cooling system. the temperature shouldn't be rising like that especially if the car is going that fast on the highway..

chech your coolant level? how is it? when was the last time it was flushed out? maybe the thermostat needs replacing.

imported_haymaker 07-Aug-2003 04:37 PM

coolant is full and no signs of leaking, how would i know if the thermostat needs replacing?

imported_haymaker 07-Aug-2003 04:38 PM

i also burn up a lot of oil....i was told its normal for an older car like mine

imported_BoOsTd 07-Aug-2003 04:42 PM

how old is the thermostat...some people recomend changing it every few years...Rad flush is always good maintenence

bbarbulo 07-Aug-2003 04:44 PM

If any oil gets in the coolant, the thermostat will fail.

they are cheap to replace but if you wanna test it, get some water to 90 degrees I think, and it should open... but how many of us have a thermometer that goes to 100 degrees C?? Just buy another thermostat.

imported_haymaker 07-Aug-2003 04:44 PM

i bought the car about a month ago so i'm not too sure, i will look into that tho....how much is thermostat and rad flush going to cost me?

bbarbulo 07-Aug-2003 04:46 PM
