Only buy OEM!!!

Well a few days ago my sister calls me up in a panic saying her wheel "fell" off. So i go over and see that the balljoint had seperated and left the wheel resting on the fender. The thing is that i changed the balljoints out with aftermarket ones in the summer (beck/arnley). Now how can a balljoint seperate in only a year and 4 months?!?!?! This is really pissing me off and i dunno how i should go about handling sumthing like this? Thank god it happened on the driveway and not on the highway. So lesson is always buy OEM!!!! :banghead:

imported_t_dot_SiR 22-Nov-2005 06:06 PM

when it comes to parts, i always oem unless its TOP BRAND aftermarket... not some cheesy canadian tire or walmart...
lesson learned i guess

SteveZ 22-Nov-2005 06:19 PM

lesson isnt always buy oem, its never buy cheap.

imported_alwaysoverkill 22-Nov-2005 06:20 PM

yup, OEM all the way, even though its more expensive...like my $77 (for both) OEM windshield wipers :(

buy it right and know its done.

anyone think it took that long for incorectly installed ball joints to break? no offence. i use the cheapest sh*t i can find and i dont ever have problems. thats non engine related parts.

imported_SIR_Injected 23-Nov-2005 08:51 AM

my upper and lower arms are aftermarket dont seem to have problem .. expect engine is all OEM i dont mess with aftermarket there!

how can it be installed incorrectly? old one pressed out new one pressed in

And it didnt break, the balljoint seperated from the socket. And no curbs were hit and no accident occured while this balljoint was on the car

car did not squeek or make any noises, i did an oil change a few weeks prior to this and they were fine

U pressed the ball joint in? U didn't change the whole upper control arm? That's probably the problem haha. It takes much more time and longer to press it in and more work than just get another control arm with the ball joint. I brought aftermarket controls for my civic hb. My upper control arm is loose again but because of the flooding day i hit like 2 drain holes. So i guess it wasn't the control arm's fault and in the winter i keep doing donuts in the parking lot. But some front end stuff it might be good to buy OEM i assume. Other stuff i will go aftermarket.
