oiling intake filter

My friend just got a short ram intake with a high flow K&N filter and already installed it in his car..he was wondering if it is really necessary to oil the filter before using it..if he didnt should he take it back out and oil it? ..thanks for your input

i'd oil it regardless, that is how it was designed and intended to be used.

the oil isnt' for water you D-bag it's for dirt seeing how the k&n fibers are spaced apart for beter flow the oil helps trap the dirt by sticking to it.

have you ever oiled a filter with soem mx filter oil it's like glue

and you want a very light oiling done

I'd say ditch the pre oiled K and N air filter. AEM makes a non oiled filter called the dryflow. It flows just as well without the risk of fouling up engine components.

I rinse my cone filter every so often, to clean out the dusts. I have been using it for 4 years now.
