I know you guys like to change your oil often ... shows you care about your machine ... but, my question is why so often? ... if you're using dino, I fully understand; but a good synthetic at 10,000 miles is still giving you better protection than the dino right out of the bottle ... why not give your engine better protection, and save some time and money in the process? ...

just a thought ....

Cheers

I just changed my oil in my 06 civic Ex @ 11,510KM with Mobil 1 5w20. I wonder how long I can last with Mobil 1 vs Honda factory. (btw: 06 have an oil life meter)

what oil would you recommend for a d16z6? the motor burns oil when i'm about to do an oil change with conventional oil. i can see puffs of white smoke coming out when i get on it.

Amsoil EA Oil Filters are guaranteed for 25,000 miles. I'm at 8,000 km on my Civic with Amsoil Series 2000 0W-30 and an EA filter, and the oil looks like it did the day I put it in.

For more detailed information on the filter, click here ...

Didn't mean to be critical with my post guys. You take great care of your machines. But ... let me share my perspective ....

Let's say, in our little world, everybody should change their oil at least every 5,000 km. That's because the oils ability to protect our engines breaks down very quickly after that point, and we want to do the best for our engine, right? Now some of us will change it even more often, because we want a consistant level of really good protection. .....

Now let's say we stumble across a little town somewhere in Ontario, and to our amazement, people are buying oil for just $1.25 a quart, and changing it every 2,000 km. The really fussy one's change it every 1,000 km. ...

We say Dude! ... how come you're using that oil ... ours is so good, we only have to change it at 3,000 km, and that's being really fussy ...

They shake their heads in disbelief and walk away. At $1.25 it's a cheap investment, right?

You walk away wondering why they would be waisting their time using this stuff when everyone knows an oil can easily go 5,000 km...

We're all accustomed to certain behaviours and beliefs, and I'm not saying that's bad for a second. I'm not saying you're wrong, and I'm right. It's just the way it is ... but the view from my little Amsoil world (as twisted as that may be ) makes me wonder what the attraction is to a lubricant that holds our absolute trust for only 3-5,000 km.

Not criticizing folks, just thinking out loud.

Cheers

Lots to choose from ...

Series 2000 Synthetic 0W-30 Motor Oil
http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/tso.aspx
Service life 35,000 miles normal / 17,000 severe

SAE 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil
http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/asl.aspx
Service life 25,000 normal / 15,000 severe

SAE 10W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil
http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/atm.aspx
Service life 25,000 normal / 15,000 severe

SAE 5W-30 XL Synthetic Motor Oil
http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/xlf.aspx
Service life 7,500 miles normal or severe

Amsoil synthetic is intended for mechanically sound engines. If you are burning oil from heat / evaporation, it will be reduced or eliminated with Amsoil. If there are other reasons for the burning, you'll have to see.

If you are shy about stepping up to syn for the first time, you can try the XL. It's the most economical to purchase, but gives you more than twice the life of dino oil. Series 2000 0W-30 is the top tier product. It's awesome stuff, and it's what I'm using in my Civic.

For wholesale prices, I have put the catalogue online as a pdf here ....

Hope this helps.

Cheers

I dont care whether your running synthetic or dino oil. 10,000km is pushing way too far. A motor still creates sludge and metal shavings.

Most new car engine have had extended drain interval surpassing the 5,000 km mark. Hely, my 95 Sable had drain periods ever 8,000km and it was a 95. My Aunt's 03 BMW has a rediculous drain interval of like 20000 km. Shavings or not, I beleive engines today are built better so they can withstand amongst other things; extended drain intervals.

That being said I can't see myself switch to Amsoil now. I run a tiny little D16Y7. Perhaps if I had something a little better I would but for now dino every 5000k.

for a regular d series its not worth it to do oil changes too often
best to do it at the reccomended rate

sure you think that itll save you in the long run, but keep in mind that a full d series swap costs next to nothing
